Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round of elections this Sunday, May 28, with 99 % of the votes counted.

With this victory, Erdogan begins a new term. It has been in charge of Turkey for 20 years, completed in the month of March; in a first stage as prime minister and since 2014 as president.

The president, at the head of the Justice and Development Party (AKP, Islamoconservative), has secured a new five-year term in power, with 52.1 % of the votes. His rival, the Social Democrat Kemal Kiliçdaroglu, reached 47.9% of the vote.

The leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Hungary, Serbia, Libya and Iran are among the first to officially congratulate Erdogan on this victory.

Despite a gray climate and some changes denounced by the opposition, such as voters who were not registered, the electoral process was favorable for the current president of the nation, according to Ahmet Yener, president of the Supreme Electoral Council of Turkey.
