The tycoon Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX, wants there to be a third option in the artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, to rival those of OpenAI and Google, the two most powerful companies in this sector in the today, and that it does so without harming humanity.

Musk confirmed that he is working on what he has called ‘TruthGPT’, an AI that “tries to understand the universe”, since, as he explains, an AI like this, “that cares about understanding the universe, will be less likely to annihilate the humans”.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, the mogul shared his concerns about the potential harm that artificial intelligence can cause and his intention to launch an alternative to ChatGPT, the chatbot of OpenAI, a company he helped found. in its beginnings.

Musk previously expressed his rejection of the direction he was taking in AI development. He is, in fact, one of the signatories of the open letter that at the end of March urged to stop “immediately and for at least six months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4.“

A month earlier he had already expressed that “what we need is TruthGPT”, in a post on his Twitter profile. Add to this that, recently, it has been revealed that he has founded a new company focused on artificial intelligence, X.AI, as The Wall Street Journal first reported.

His intention to oppose the OpenAI language model is clear, but this company is not the only company that excels in AI. There is also Google, which, although it may have been overwhelmed by the success of ChatGPT and the GPT language model, trained by Microsoft, has already announced Bard and improvements to the language models that power it, to increase its capabilities.
