Venezuela announced this Monday, August 19, the implementation of an epidemiological protocol at airports against monkeypox (mpox).

People entering the country must show a record of medical data that confirms their health status, particularly those travelers who come from countries where there is an outbreak of the disease.

As is known, monkeypox is an infectious disease that can cause “painful rashes, swollen glands and fever in those affected. It is transmitted by close skin-to-skin or skin-to-mucous membrane contact (such as saliva), especially all in sexual relations, or through contaminated objects and puncture wounds.”

The health authorities of Venezuela indicated that they have the medical, technological, scientific capacity, as well as the inter-institutional immediate response teams to promptly confront the situation and guarantee “the diagnosis, medical care, follow-up and monitoring required with the application of the recommendations issued by the WHO.

They added that they are in the process of acquiring the vaccine “which guarantees the strengthening of the epidemiological fence for population groups with high risk of exposure.”
