The Venezuelan government, with international support, anticipates that commercial operations at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state, will be partially restored within 10 to 12 weeks, according to Transportation Minister Francisco Garcés.

The official stated that the main priority is “not to take risks, and for this, safeguarding lives is paramount.”

As is known, operations at Maiquetía Airport were suspended following severe structural damage to the facilities during the two earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.

Garcés indicated, however, that this damage is recoverable. Some areas are partially operational, as a first step toward the recovery of the country’s main airport.
