The president of the San Antonio del Táchira-Ureña Exchange Operators, Jeovanny Fernández Sayago, recently addressed the situation of transactions on the border with Colombia, stating that it is regrettable that Venezuelans are subjected to the prices charged on the other side of the bridge and insisted on the reactivation of the exchange offices along the border.

According to Fernández Sayago, the current situation “greatly limits citizens who wish to conduct transactions on the Venezuelan side.”

In this regard, he called on border exchange operators “to restore the strength of the bolívar.” Furthermore, the official emphasized that in the state of Táchira, in Venezuela’s Andean region, “three currencies are used: the peso, the dollar, and the bolívar.”

As a reference, he recalled that before the border closure between Colombia and Venezuela, which occurred on August 19, 2015, some 19 exchange offices operated, most of them on Avenida Venezuela in San Antonio. In this regard, he emphasized that “feedback between business owners, merchants, and ordinary citizens must be guaranteed.”

Additionally, the president of the Foreign Exchange Operators of the San Antonio del Táchira-Ureña axis urged the new board of directors of Fedecámaras Táchira to act as a bridge between the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) and the Superintendency of Banking Sector Institutions (Sudeban) to establish working groups that “allow the issue to be addressed again and thus reactivate border exchange operators to regain exchange sovereignty.”
