China announced last Thursday, May 15, the elimination of the visa requirement for entry into the country for travelers from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay starting June 1.

The measure is part of a series of initiatives implemented by the Asian country since 2023 to encourage tourism and strengthen international ties.

The visa waiver for travelers from these five Latin American countries is valid for stays of up to 30 days, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, who added that the decision “will be in effect until May 31, 2026, and will allow ordinary passport holders to travel to the Asian country for tourism, business, family visits, cultural exchanges, or transit.”

The Chinese official emphasized that the goal is to “facilitate people-to-people exchanges and foster friendly cooperation.” In this regard, he assured that his country “will continue to expand its openness policy.”
