According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the unemployment rate in the South American country stood at 7.7 %, its lowest level since the beginning of 2015.

The agency’s data, published this Tuesday, indicate: “Between July and September, unemployment fell 0.3 percentage points compared to the second quarter (April-June, 8 %) and one point compared to the same period in 2022.”

The coordinator of the IBGE, Adriana Beringuy, stressed: “The fall in the unemployment rate was induced by the expressive growth in the number of people working and by the retraction of people looking for work in the third quarter.”

In detail, it is indicated that the nation led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva counted 8.3 million citizens looking for work in the period from July to September, which is 3.8% less than in the previous quarter and 12.1 % less than in 2022.

The occupancy rate “reached 99.8 million, a record since measurements began in 2012, according to the IBGE. In the July-September period, 929,000 people joined the labor market, a quarterly advance of 0.9 %,” details the IBGE.

In this way, the year-on-year rate of expansion of the world’s second-largest economy exceeded expectations, which pointed to growth of 3.3 %, after GDP expansion of 0.4 % in the second quarter of 2022 and 4 .8 % in the first three months of the year.

In the first nine months of 2022, China’s GDP reached a value of 87 trillion yuan, which represents a year-on-year growth of 3 %, against the target for the whole year of 5.5 %.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that China’s economy will expand by just 3.2 % in 2022, which would be the slowest rate since the 1980s, excluding 2.4 % in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic Covid-19 weighed on growth.

The Chinese primary sector grew in the first nine months of 2022 at an annual rate of 4.2 %, while industry expanded by 3.9 % and the services sector by 2.3 %.

The National Bureau of Statistics of China announced last week the postponement of the publication of the Asian giant’s GDP figures for the third quarter of the year to coincide with the celebration of the XX National Congress of the Communist Party of China (PCCh).

“After a challenging first semester, we believe that we are on the way to accelerate growth again,” the multinational highlighted in the presentation of its accounts, adding that in November it will launch its new plan with announcements in 12 countries.
