The European statistical agency, Eurostat, published data on the eurozone’s economic growth in the third quarter of the year, placing it at 0.3 percent.

“Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 1.4 % in the euro area and 1.6 % in the EU in the third quarter of 2025, following +1.6% in the euro area and +1.7 % in the EU in the previous quarter,” the agency stated.

The GDP increase for the major countries is broken down as follows: “Denmark (+2.3 %) recorded the largest increase in GDP compared to the previous quarter, followed by Luxembourg and Sweden (both +1.1 %). Declines were observed in Ireland and Finland (both -0.3 %) and Romania (-0.2 %). In the case of Spain, it grew by 0.6 %.”

Regarding household final consumption expenditure, the index increased by 0.2 % in both the euro area and the European Union. Government final consumption expenditure grew by 0.7 % in both the euro area and the EU.

There was also an increase of 0.9 % in gross fixed capital formation in the euro area and 1.1 % in the EU.

Exports increased by 0.7 % and 0.9 % in the euro area and the EU, respectively. Imports increased by 1.3 % in both regions.

The Federal Statistical Office published the data on Germany’s gross domestic product for the third quarter of 2024, confirming slower growth than expected.

According to the statistics office, German GDP in this period stood at 0.1 %, which is “a downward revision of 0.1 points compared to the first estimate.”

Compared to the same period in 2023, the contraction of Germany’s economy was 0.3 percent. On the other hand, during the second quarter of this year, German GDP “had contracted by 0.3 % after having grown by 0.2 percent in the first quarter.”

Analysts believe that a crucial factor in the weak growth for the third quarter was private consumption, which increased by 0.3 %. On the other hand, government spending also rose by 0.4 %.

US bank Bank of America posted net attributable profit of $ 7.26 billion for the third quarter of 2021 as a whole, equivalent to an increase of 63.5 % compared to the same period last year, according to of the income statement.

“We have reported strong results as the economy continued to improve and our businesses recovered the organic customer growth we saw before the pandemic,” said Brian Moynihan, President and CEO Brian Moynihan.

Net income between July and September was 22,766 million dollars, 11.9 % more than in the third quarter of 2020. Income from net interests was 11,094 million, 9.5 % more.

On the other hand, the company had a turnover of 9,915 million dollars from the commissions and fees charged, 13 % more, while the market-making activity accounted for income of 2,005 million, 18.7 % more.

In addition to the increase in billing, Bank of America’s profits during the quarter also grew due to the effect of provisions. During the third quarter of 2020, due to the pandemic, the bank provisioned 1,389 million to face possible credit defaults from its clients. The improvement in the economic outlook during 2021 has caused the entity to reduce those funds provisioned and reserved for losses. Thus, between July and September it reduced its provisions by 624 million, which has a positive effect on the accounts.
