WhatsApp hopes to have third-party chat active by March 2024, when the messaging platform is updated, so it can comply with EU regulations.

The idea is to comply with the regulations established by the Digital Markets Law, through interoperability with third-party messaging applications.

The digital media WaBetaInfo has published on the X social network how the window, still inactive, for third-party chat will work. This will allow users to receive and also reply to messages from, for example, Telegram and Signal starting in March next year.

Complying with European Union regulations is one of the objectives of this change, in line with the DMA’s interest in reducing unfair competition from more robust platforms compared to smaller ones.

Although the third-party chat window has been visible since the last WhatsApp update, the EU gave a period of six months for the relevant changes to be made.

The platform will also apply filters for on-screen conversations next year. All, Unread, Contacts and Groups will be displayed at the top of the screen. The user will set the modifications on the device.
