It was either that or close its doors due to the high demand for e-commerce that was catapulted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Buying and selling over the Internet became the main means of commerce among the world’s inhabitants once the quarantine and mobility restrictions were declared, which prevented being able to go out to a shopping center, bakery or supermarket to buy first-rate items need.

In this scenario, small and large commercial brands as well as companies were forced to migrate to the cloud to stay active. With this, the need for specialized advice arose. From there, new, high-paying jobs have emerged related to managing data in the cloud.

The demand for Cloud Data Engineering is increasing. So much so that there are already training programs on the subject, where students still without completing the regulatory period are hired with payment in dollars.

The most important thing is that the economy is migrating by leaps and bounds to the cloud, making room for the incorporation of as many specialists as they appear in the labor market. Thus, you can currently see positions in the cloud as architects, developers and engineers. The goal for all of them is to operate without interference and guarantee business, so they need to keep up to date with new technologies.

This was stated by the economist and professor at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Ricardo Hausmann, during his speech at the forum “Towards the Venezuelan economic miracle”, organized by the Venezuelan Observatory of Finance.

Hausmann confirmed that all opportunities go through knowing how to do things and include achieving the adaptation of new technologies in people. He affirmed that this is a fundamental part to be considered when thinking about a transition, progress and development in Venezuela.

Investments in the oil sector

He stressed that by 2030, gasoline and diesel vehicles will decrease worldwide, since through electricity generation, policies for decarbonization will continue to be promoted in the world. In the Venezuelan case, there is oil wealth in the subsoil, but its production requires investments between $ 5,000 and $ 10,000 million.

Hausmann insisted on the need to focus on promoting a green energy matrix, indicating that green products will be made from renewable goods.

Tourist activity and teleworking

On the other hand, he underlined the potential that Venezuela has from the point of view of tourism, both due to its geographical location and its natural beauties. However, he warned that due to insecurity problems, he cannot have high expectations regarding a sustainable development of this activity.

Regarding teleworking, he pointed out that it emerged as an alternative during the pandemic and that it will continue to grow, generating a reform in production conditions, since many Venezuelans are selling their services over the Internet.

Development of the primary sector

He made special emphasis on the Venezuelan primary sector, referring to the large extensions of fertile lands that exist throughout the territory. According to Hausmann, it is necessary to boost its development with new technologies. He recalled that at the moment there are modified seeds from different areas such as corn and soybeans; products that would be converted – among other uses – into raw materials for the production of animal feed, such as pigs and chickens.

In the professor’s opinion, with international help, Venezuela could emerge from the crisis in a period of 3 to 5 years.
