This Thursday, March 19, the president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Telecommunications Services Companies (Casetel), Juan Andrés Krumins, emphasized the need to review service rates, in conjunction with the authorities, given the increase in cost structures as a consequence of the exchange rate gap.

In an interview with the radio station Unión Radio, Krumins said: “We must be aware that if we want to have good service, we also have to pay and adjust to the reality of the country.”

He emphasized the obstacles the sector faced in 2025 due to “macroeconomic barriers, the freeze on tariffs, and the difficulty in accessing foreign currency.”

In this context, the president of Casetel highlighted that expectations for 2026 are very positive and added: “We have a sector with extraordinary growth potential, but to achieve this, we need to communicate, we need to sit down and work together, and build trust.”

Krumins announced that they will “soon meet with the new authorities of the National Telecommunications Commission of Venezuela (Conatel)” to discuss the necessary measures to provide quality service to consumers.

He highlighted the development and progress of the telecommunications sector in the country and its consolidation as “a source of the Venezuelan economy.”

Maduro pointed out that during this year, Venezuela has increased Internet consumption to 11.1 Terabytes (TB), which translates into a significant increase in the demand for this service.

In this regard, Jorge Márquez, vice president of the Public Works and Services sector and director of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), stated that this important step will help “improve the speed and quality of the service, in addition to strengthening cybersecurity with internal data traffic.”

In a press release, the Ministry of Science and Technology underlined the valuable alliance with Iran for the production of optical fiber, which will allow Venezuela to project itself towards Central America and the Caribbean.”

Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela, announced this Wednesday a series of measures to boost the telecommunications sector and adapt to the new challenges of technology.

During the opening of the first International Telecommunications Fair of Venezuela (Fitelven), inaugurated at the Poliedro of Caracas and which ends this Saturday, September 30, Maduro announced measures “in which his government will work in order to improve the communications system from the country.”

Maduro highlighted: “Advancing expansion, sustainability and innovation is the premise that guides the creation of the Conectar 2030 Agenda, a roadmap that seeks to promote the development of telecommunications in Venezuela.”

Four main focuses have been established on this route, which are:

• Credits for telecommunications operators: Investment in telecommunications projects will be stimulated, for which the president requested greater support for entrepreneurs, through credits, from the corresponding organizations with credits.
• Alliances between public and private sectors: Maduro ordered the president of the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Jorge Márquez, “to establish alliances between the public and private sectors that favor the deployment of internet service through fiber optics.”
• Tax exemption for the telecommunications sector: All companies dedicated to telecommunications and high technology will be exempt for one year from the value added tax and the rate determined by the customs regime on inputs for the development of the companies. telecommunications in the territory.
• Openness to 5G technology: President Maduro “asked to move forward quickly so that 5G technology reaches all of Venezuela with force.”
