The proposal to reduce electricity consumption is not new. How can this goal be achieved? Some tips will help achieve sustainable development, cost reduction, and a better quality of life.

Easy-to-implement tips for reducing electricity consumption

• Switch to LED bulbs: LED bulbs or lamps consume at least 7% less than traditional bulbs and have a longer lifespan. Total savings could exceed 80%.
• Unplug devices after use: Devices such as phone chargers or other digital devices, as well as televisions and blenders, are some examples of devices that can be unplugged when not in use. It’s important to remember that even when they’re turned off but plugged in, they consume up to 10% of energy.
• Control air conditioning use: Sometimes, simply turning on the air conditioning to cool the space and then turning it off is enough. Opening windows for natural air circulation is another option, whenever possible.

• Make the most of natural light: Natural light is extremely healthy for the body. Opening windows, drawing curtains or blinds, and allowing sunlight to illuminate the room can significantly save energy.
• Reducing shower time: A shorter shower doesn’t mean less hygiene. Shower time can be reduced, considering that hot water requires more energy.
• Fill the washing machine to maximum capacity: Washing machines have a maximum capacity. Following this manufacturer’s recommendation will reduce the number of times the appliance is used, thereby reducing energy consumption through efficient use of the washing machine.
• Updating appliances: Today’s household appliances are designed for more efficient consumption. Updating appliances, where possible, will help reduce electricity costs.

The transition towards the circular economy is one of the objectives of China and the European Union, regions that have decided to reinforce their efforts in this area with a memorandum of understanding.

A joint roadmap will allow China and the EU to delve into the treatment of plastics, “the value chains of batteries and remanufacturing,” according to the Community Executive in a statement.

In his opinion, the roadmap will allow progress towards the creation of new opportunities for “more sustainable production and consumption.”

Both blocks will meet in May to hold a workshop on the circular economy and plastics. And the rest of the year there will be other meetings to address the battery and remanufacturing value chains.
