Despite several new issues being examined in relation to cryptocurrency fraud, recent research reveals a general lack of interest on the part of accountants in honing their skills in this area.

The study, carried out by Recap, analyzed Google search data to show that the global interest of accountants in engaging with cryptocurrency has decreased by 3 % in the last three months globally, and by 14 % in comparison. with the previous year.

Recap also conducted a global survey on Reddit, asking accountants if they were tempted to actively improve their cryptocurrency accounting skills, and only 9 % responded in the affirmative.

This study comes at a time when the OECD has confirmed its decision to adopt the Crypto Asset Reporting Framework as an international standard to provide comprehensive tax reporting on cryptocurrency transactions in G20 countries.

The European Union is also expected to soon publish a new bill that will allow cryptocurrency companies to disclose details of their clients’ holdings to tax authorities.

Daniel Howitt, co-founder and CEO of Recap, commented on the survey: “It may be ignorance or arrogance, but accountants have a responsibility to effectively represent their clients. As HMRC confirms proposals to regulate the cryptocurrency industry, “Investors will need accountants who are knowledgeable in this field. In a complex industry, accountants need to be able to easily manage their clients’ digital assets and tax matters.”

The National Experimental University of Telecommunications and Information Technology of Venezuela (UNETI) announced the start of the Master’s Degree in Blockchain for the institution’s teachers in order to train them as multipliers of knowledge about this technology in the national territory.

Carlos Berbecí, rector of the University, stressed that “this is a new stage for Venezuelan education and the contribution of our university will be to continue bringing education to the forefront.”

It is the first master’s degree related to block technology to be offered in the Caribbean country. In its first phase it will be taught to teachers at the university itself and later a call will be made to all professionals who wish to train in this type technology and knowledge area.

Among the compulsory curricular units that make up the program, the following stand out: Blockchain Fundamentals; creation, research and innovation in blockchain, arithmetic logic system, computer logic system, blockchain architecture, disruptive technologies, security system and blockchain programming.

Other obligatory subjects are: technological governance system, trading, crypto financial system, blockchain-based business model; ontoespistemology of disruptive technologies, praxeology and intellectual creation, scientific data analysis and big data.

While blockchain legality, blockchain and digital mining will be part of the optional subjects that students of the master’s degree will be able to select.

UNETI also developed the Blockchain Research Center of Venezuela, which is fully functioning and is dedicated “to lines of research and development, as well as the execution of projects with blockchain technology that provides specialized technical advisory services applied to R&I research, development and innovation projects, operational plans for both the public and private sectors, also nationally and internationally, on the application and use of blockchain technology and related activities.”

In this way the institution intends to generate a space for analysis and discussion of the markets, reinforcing the general skills and capacity related to emerging economies.

It also seeks to offer a practical approach to students, betting on integrating key concepts of modern technologies, their operation, applications and advantages that will allow them to develop the skills and abilities that integrate professional human talent with experiences based on blockchain.
