Activision Blizzard announced the launch of a selection of the games it develops on Steam, starting with Overwatch 2, which will be available on this platform starting August 10.

Until now, this developer’s games for PC were only released through the Battle.net platform, a service provided by Blizzard Entertainment itself and which requires an account to access these titles.

This requirement will be maintained as of August 10, with the particularity that Activision Blizzard will also bring its PC video games directly to Steam, a platform developed by Valve.

The Call Of Duty developer said in a statement that this change is because it seeks to give all users “the opportunity to experiment” with their universes “no matter how they choose to play.”

While she has acknowledged that Battle.net “is home” to all PC gamers, “games are no longer just for specific communities, as they were when” this platform launched.

“Gaming is for everyone, and while we remain committed to continually investing in and supporting Battle.net, we want to break down the barriers to make it easier for gamers around the world to find and enjoy our games,” she added.
