In this regard, from the established date, “new applicants to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) must demonstrate 1,000 subscribers and, in addition, 8,000 valid watch hours in the last year or 20 million qualifying views on Shorts in the last 90 days.”

The measure doubles the required watch hours and views on Shorts. The limit increases from 4,000 to 8,000 watch hours or from 10 to 20 million views in short format. Creators should know that “the requirement is not retroactive for channels that are already monetized. Current YPP members do not lose their status, although they will have to maintain certain minimums to retain access to the Shorts Creators Pool.”

On the other hand, the company indicated the expansion of YouTube Premium Lite, including in Spain. “The reduced subscription, with limited advertising, opens up an indirect source of income for creators, although it does not compensate for the stricter YPP requirements.”

Sánchez announced Spain’s decision during his participation in the World Government Summit in Dubai. The president added that his country “has focused on digital governance as a central issue of our era that must be addressed globally in the face of the failed state into which the social media ecosystem has devolved, where laws are ignored and crimes are tolerated.”

He also referred to the “lack of governance in content control and impunity for those who violate the law, the spread of disinformation and hate speech, and the lack of protection of personal data and material as serious dangers that challenge the protection of rights and freedoms and distort reality, particularly for minors who have integrated the use of social media into their daily lives.”

The priority is the protection of minors, in addition to greater control over social media. This will be reinforced by the Executive’s push to include in the penal code the manipulation of algorithms and the amplification of illegal content. This will be a joint effort with the Public Prosecutor’s Office “to prosecute potential legal infractions by Google, TikTok, and Instagram and will defend Spain’s digital sovereignty” against any type of foreign coercion.

The first year was free, and then an annual fee of €0.89 was charged. In 2016, the subscription was eliminated. But the paid plan could return to avoid the ads that Meta wants to include in Status and Channels.

This would be the first change to the instant messaging application in Spain in ten years. In this regard, it is known that “the ads will not appear within private chats, which will continue to be end-to-end encrypted, but in the more social spaces of the platform, similar to Instagram Stories or broadcast channels.”

In order to align with European regulations, “Meta will enable an alternative: a monthly subscription that will allow the use of WhatsApp without ads in Status and Channels.”

This option has already been detected in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.3.9 for Android, according to reports from specialized media outlets such as WaBetaInfo, which indicates a first phase of the subscription in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The fee would be around €4 per month.

Currently, four banks in the European country hold the MiCA license, granted by the CNMV (Spanish National Securities Market Commission), to offer cryptocurrency custody and trading.

Renta 4 Banco is the most recent to be authorized to allow Spaniards to “buy, sell, hold, and transfer crypto assets. In addition, the bank will be able to offer institutional custody, order reception and transmission, and the transfer of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and other assets from its digital platform.”

The first banks to obtain this authorization were BBVA, in March 2025, followed by Cecabank and Openbank, both authorized in July.

“Cecabank immediately activated its custody and order transmission services, while Openbank added a catalog that includes BTC, ETH, Litecoin (LTC), and Cardano (ADA), among other cryptocurrencies.”

It should be clarified that this expansion is not limited to local banks in Spain, since thanks to the “MiCA European passport,” entities from other countries within the bloc can legally operate in Spain without needing to apply for an additional license.

Some of these are Commerzbank from Germany, CACEIS from France, and Société Générale, which offer trading and custody services accessible to Spanish clients under the common regulatory framework.

According to the study, the projections are based on data on compensation in eight geographic locations: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, A Coruña, Málaga, Bilbao, and Zaragoza. These statistics identify “salary ranges for almost 400 relevant positions in fourteen sectors and professional areas.”

Miguel Mercado, National Director of Randstad Professional, stated that “the changes affecting the Spanish economy and labor market during 2025, particularly the talent shortage and inflation, have led to greater dynamism in salary trends, and we estimate an average salary increase of around 5 % for next year.”

During 2025, the Spanish labor market has shown signs of stabilization after a period of high uncertainty. Furthermore, inflation has moderated, but “the cumulative effects of geopolitical tensions, the rising cost of living, and the slowdown in European growth continue to influence the economy’s performance.”

However, significant challenges remain related to the technological transformation driven by AI, as well as advanced automation and the digitalization of production processes.

In their quest to end spam calls, the authorities have moved forward with this law, which will put an end to automated systems “capable of dialing thousands of numbers per minute.”

The law, which still needs to pass through the Senate and then return to the Congress for final approval, proposes measures that will benefit consumers:

Caller ID: Companies will be required to identify their commercial calls using a prefix. Otherwise, telephone operators may block calls and declare all contracts made on unauthorized calls null and void.

Management fees are eliminated: Each company must notify and include management fees in the final price of tickets and services. Consequently, all additional costs must be detailed from the beginning of the purchase process, not at the end. This way, the consumer will have a clear understanding of the complete final price.

End of automated service: Service exclusively through answering machines or artificial intelligence is prohibited, so consumers will have the right to speak with a person whenever they need to. Furthermore, it is established that 95% of commercial calls must be answered in less than three minutes and complaints within a maximum of 15 days, but in the case of improper charges, the deadline is reduced to 5 days.

Service in the user’s language: The law establishes that large companies must provide service in Spanish and co-official languages, as well as guarantee accessibility for vulnerable people.

Clarity on algorithms and fake reviews: Platforms are now required to explain the parameters they use to personalize prices or advertisements for their products and services. Fake reviews are also restricted, and their sale is prohibited.

Subscription renewal notifications: Automatic renewal of streaming service subscriptions is now prohibited. Notifications must be sent 15 days before the expiration date so that customers have the option not to renew.
