Bancamiga was once again present at the 2025 International Telecommunications Fair (Fitelven), held from September 17 to 21 at the Poliedro de Caracas. This time, the bank highlighted its latest innovations to ensure customers can use its services securely.

In an attractive and well-equipped booth, located on the upper level of the iconic Caracas venue, attendees at the event explored related topics and expanded their knowledge about banking security, including solutions such as Virtual Lock, ID Check, and 2FA (two-factor authentication).

Three solutions, resources, or mechanisms that protect Bancamiga customers

The Virtual Lock is a mechanism that prevents third parties from using your information to make online purchases. It must be activated before any online purchase with a Bancamiga card. Once the purchase is completed, it is automatically deactivated.

Another security protocol promoted by Bancamiga for online shopping is ID Check. This is an additional authentication layer that confirms that the person making the purchase is the actual cardholder.

After entering the card details during the purchase process, the website will request verification using a code generated in Bancamiga Suite. Simply access the Bancamiga app, select the ID Check option, and choose “Generate Code.”

At the Bancamiga booth at Fitelven, visitors also learned about the benefits of 2FA or Google Authenticator, a security method that adds a second layer of verification to your account, in addition to the password. When you attempt to log in, the authenticator generates temporary codes that you must enter to confirm your identity and access your account.

Carlos Velásquez Valero, Information Security Manager at Bancamiga, personally addressed visitors and media representatives, answering questions and providing further details and preventive recommendations.

For Bancamiga, protecting the security of its transactions is paramount, and the bank strives to implement mechanisms that safeguard its clients.  It also regularly shares security tips through its communication channels, including the following:

1. Create strong passwords and never reuse them. Do not use your date of birth, personal information, or consecutive numbers. Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Never use the same password for your email or social media accounts.
2. Do not share your personal information. Bancamiga will never call or email you to request your password, card number, or other personal information.

As in previous years, Bancamiga had its mobile branch at Fitelven 2025, a unit that has been traveling throughout the country for two years, providing banking services to Venezuelans. This offered a great opportunity for those interested to open accounts in bolivars and foreign currency, obtain a Bancamiga Debit Card, or purchase their modern point-of-sale terminals.

Europe inaugurated its first Quantum Data Center, in collaboration with the American company IBM, in the German town of Ehmingen, near Stuttgart.

The opening ceremony was held on October 1st, with the participation of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, with which the old continent takes an important step in the scientific area.

It was learned that the Quantum Data Center is made up of “two quantum systems, computers capable of performing operations in seconds that would take days on classical computing machines.”

According to the German chancellor, IBM would have selected the European country as the headquarters of the data center, taking into account the “good foundations that the country has in terms of research and development.”

It is appropriate to highlight Scholz’s words regarding the fact that Germany is the only country among the large economies of Europe that in recent years has allocated more than 3 % of its GDP to investment in research and development.

Since 2020, investment in quantum computing has reached 2 billion euros. The German chancellor detailed that some of the areas in which quantum computing will be applied are the computer, industrial and pharmaceutical sectors.

This data center will be accessible to “250 companies, research centers and government institutions and agencies,” in the search to position Germany as a “world leader in the use of quantum technologies.”

For his part, the director of IBM’s research area, Darío Gil, indicated that the opening of the first Quantum Data Center in Germany represents a further step in the “creation of a new industry based on new computing models.”

The Colombian government announced through MinTIC spokespersons the construction of two artificial intelligence (AI) megacenters in Bogotá and Zi0paquirá, respectively, through an investment of USD 200,000 million.

Mauricio Lizcano, head of MinTIC, declared that “artificial intelligence will provide the country with 100 solutions in the same number of areas.” The goal is to advance rapidly in AI and digitalization.

According to the minister, the process has already begun, in the lots, with the action of Findeter and the National University as those in charge of the details of the projects. “We already have a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, which is the direction of what we do and is managed with fundamental models that provide a practical service to the country,” added Lizcano.

The work is focused on achieving 100 AI solutions for the country. An example is Agrotec, focused on regions obtaining “better prices for their main activities and improving their processes to obtain better products. But also issues in health, security, industry, export, there are 100, and they cover the same number of country requirements, with specific solutions as in the case of security.”

They are working with a three-year deadline to achieve objectives in the various areas of life in the country. Regarding cybersecurity, they have signed an alliance with the National Police to work together and address the issue. AI will help demarcate the areas of greatest criminal activity, “with typologies of crime, frequency, and thus be able to develop strategies to confront them with high effectiveness.”

To maximize the use of digital technology and AI, they are training personnel in related areas so that they actively participate in the supercenters that will be built in Colombia.

Microsoft has ambitious plans to boost the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Spain. According to Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, the company will invest 1.95 billion euros in this effort during the years 2024 and 2025.

The announcement was made during a meeting with the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez. The investment aims to promote digital innovation and the responsible use of AI.

This figure represents Microsoft’s largest investment in Spain since the company established its presence in the country 37 years ago. In addition, it exceeds by four times the amount that the US technology has previously allocated to the Artificial Intelligence and Cloud (cloud) infrastructure in Spain.

Among Microsoft’s plans is the opening of a Cloud Region of Data Centers in the Community of Madrid. In addition, the company intends to build a Data Center Campus in Aragon, which will offer services to European companies and public entities.

These two infrastructures, partly financed by the €1.9 billion, will allow Microsoft to provide cloud services and offer Artificial Intelligence solutions to companies and public administrations in Spain and Europe.
