The state of La Guaira, a Special Economic Zone (EEZ) in the country, exported more than 100 tons of fish to Europe this month, according to its sole authority, Marcos Meléndez.

The official indicated that this figure represents positive progress for the productive sector, in addition to strengthening international investment and the territorial development plan.

Meléndez highlighted that a total of 112 tons of fish products, primarily octopus, were exported from La Guaira state to European markets, “as part of the boost to the non-oil economy being developed in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of the state.”

The shipment was processed at a fish processing plant located in the Venezuelan coastal state, “one of the strategic projects linked to food sovereignty and with an export focus. The specific destinations are being kept confidential to protect international trade agreements and investors.”

The sole authority of the SEZ explained that the fish export is part of a set of nine development projects aimed at strengthening national production, attracting foreign investment, and generating foreign exchange.

“Among these initiatives, the construction of the wheat mill in Catia La Mar also stands out, as well as the tourism projects under development, such as the Camurimar and Bahía Sunset hotels in the Caraballeda parish, which aim to enhance the state’s recreational and economic profile,” Meléndez noted.
