Google will launch Universal Shopping Cart this summer in the United States to make it easier for users to shop across different websites and all Google services.

The smart cart is powered by Gemini AI and based on the UCP to identify deals, restocks, and detect the best payment method.

Customers will be able to “add products from different stores and websites while browsing Search, but also while using Gemini, YouTube, or Gmail.”

When you add a product to your cart, “this new Google feature will start working in the background to optimize your shopping and discovery experience.” The technology collects data on price reductions and a product’s price history, triggering alerts for the user.

“This functionality integrates with Google Wallet, so it knows your payment methods, their benefits (like coupons or discounts), your loyalty programs, etc. This way, it can suggest the best method for each occasion and notify you of opportunities to save or accumulate points with every purchase.”

At the time of payment, the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) is activated, the open-source standard through which AI agents interact autonomously and securely with online stores.
