In addition, negotiations with the Dominican Republic and El Salvador will be announced, while Talks with the European Union (EU) persist.

The director of Economic Affairs of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Mauricio Lyrio, pointed out in a press conference that negotiations with the EU continue steadily, with significant progress during the Brazilian presidency of Mercosur. The agreement with Singapore will be signed on December 7, marking a milestone at the meeting of the bloc’s presidents.

Lyrio confirmed that on the same day, the start of negotiations for free trade agreements with the Dominican Republic and El Salvador will be announced. Despite the efforts concentrated on concluding the agreement with the EU, he admitted that some points are still pending, requiring intense work until the deadline of December 7, when Brazil will hand over the semi-annual presidency of Mercosur to Paraguay.

The Paraguayan president, Santiago Peña, has set that day as the limit for negotiations with the EU. If an agreement is not reached, his government will prioritize the search for new agreements with other blocks or countries. Negotiations between the EU and Mercosur, which began in 1999 and reached consensus in 2019, have faced obstacles, especially on environmental issues and public procurement.

The Semiannual Mercosur Summit, which will begin on December 6 with the meeting of Ministers of Economy and Foreign Affairs, will mark the farewell of the Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, who will transfer power on December 10 to the winner of the elections, the far-right Javier Milei, who will not be present at the Mercosur summit.

The platform, known as Gemini Foundation, is now available in over 29 countries including Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Argentina, Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Egypt, El Salvador, among others.

Gemini Foundation will not offer services within the US, as well as some countries within the European Union and the UK. The platform will focus on Asia and Latin America.

According to a blog post on the Gemini website, the new platform will offer perpetual BTC contracts in Gemini Dollar (GUSD), with leverage of up to 100x. The company also plans to launch ETH/GUSD contracts in the coming weeks.

Gemini Foundation aims to provide individuals and institutions with a reliable, highly available, and capital-efficient platform for trading derivatives. The platform combines powerful trading tools with an elegant user experience, designed to help traders succeed.

Gemini is launching operations outside the US due to the regulatory uncertainty faced by the country, as local regulators have been acting restrictively against exchanges that allow residents to purchase digital currencies.

The CFTC recently charged Binance and its CEO with violating several important regulations, while the SEC issued a “Wells Notice” to Coinbase, notifying them of possible securities law violations with some of their products and services. Kraken was also fined $30 million by the SEC and had to suspend its staking programs after being accused of trading unregistered securities. Gemini has also faced allegations from the SEC regarding its Earn Program, which it ran jointly with Genesis Global.

This was stated by a minister of the Singapore government, named Edwin Tong, who argued that it may even be possible to carry out intimate events with a high level of personalization such as the solemnization of marriages.

“It would not be unthinkable that, in addition to marriage registration, other government services could soon be accessible online through the metaverse” Town said.

The minister used as an example a possible legal dispute related to an accident at a construction site, which could be seen in three dimensions through a virtual platform, using augmented reality as a channel.

“You can go into the actual tunnel or oil containment facility to see the construction conflict from an augmented reality perspective, depicting real space,” Town detailed.

The alliance of the technological giant, hand in hand with the platform responsible for managing an online market for SMEs, expands “outside its local market“, once obtained, by the Central Bank and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the licenses and authorizations as a “digital wholesaler” financial institution.

In order to obtain authorizations from the Chinese government, concerned about the possible financial risks implicit in the business model of the millionaire entity Alibaba, the financial institution had to carry out “an extensive restructuring of its services and operations to make them more transparent.”

Within the restructuring and expansion of the company, it bought the majority of the shares of the 2C2P payment platform in Singapore.

For the launch of its digital banking, ANEXT-Bank, the company “previewed its ANEXT business account, a dual-currency deposit account with three-factor authentication verification, remote onboarding, and daily interest.” According to the information provided to the media through an official statement.

The statement also highlighted that from the third quarter, the bank’s commercial account will be available to the SME community.

A group of scientists from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore established a new system to cover the lenses of eyeglasses that will prevent the condensation of fog, which is capable of cleaning itself and has anti-reflective properties. The result is anti-reflective lenses that don’t fog up and clean themselves.

This new eyeglass treatment promises to end both problems simultaneously. According to Chen Zhong, one of the authors of the discovery, explained: “Our team has demonstrated a method that is quick to apply, within an hour, that produces long-lasting results, demonstrating its potential for a wide range of practical applications.”

Zhong stressed that there are different products on the market, in sprays or wipes, anti-fog, but their effectiveness “are temporary and have limited effectiveness” having to be applied constantly for them to have an effect.

The method combines various materials

The research allowed the development of a method that works on polycarbonate lenses. According to the procedure, the first step is to treat the plastic with oxygen plasma, a substance used to clean the surfaces, which improves adherence. Subsequently and by means of “a pulsed laser, they cover the lens with a thin film that has two layers: one of silicon dioxide and the other of titanium dioxide“, the concentrated laser makes it easier to vaporize the excess material and reaches a film of the desired thickness.

Likewise, the use of “titanium dioxide” allows the lenses to clean themselves because it has photocatalytic capacity and when exposed to ultraviolet sunlight, it reacts with organic residues, eliminating them.

Laboratory experiments showed that the new coating is well suited to breaking down bacteria and dirt on the lens surface after exposure to sunlight throughout the day. Additionally, the researchers highlighted that the “system makes the crystals anti-reflective”, facilitating greater clarity in vision.

Innovation in the market

The group of researchers are waiting to be granted the “patent for this method and are looking for collaborators to bring the innovation to the market.” Likewise, the scientists consider that their system “would also be very useful in industrial applications of different optical components, such as surveillance cameras.”

Sun Ye, lead author of the discovery, said: “The results obtained demonstrate the multifunctionality of our coating. It is anti-reflective, anti-fog and self-cleaning. He explained that the manufacturing method is fast, easy and durable” when compared to other “anti-fog methods that usually end up in coatings with limited functions.”

Bitmain was founded by Jihan Wu and other partners in 2013 and by 2018 it was the world’s largest provider of cryptocurrency mining platforms, with a 75% market share.

The former CEO of Bitmain is quite optimistic about the future of cryptocurrencies and considers that both crypto and blockchain together “will experience rapid growth in the future to tens of trillions of dollars.”

Loyalty for crypto

According to Wu, loyalty to crypto will also increase because many current and new users will remain forever in the crypto market, requiring “advanced and sophisticated products to manage the wealth they accumulate in crypto assets”.

Cryptocurrencies, unlike the traditional financial system, are free and will continue to develop and innovate in the market because they have no restrictions. Wu pointed out.

Jihan Wu, once separated from Bitmain, focused on developing of the two companies he owns in Singapore. Bitdeer Technologies, a cryptocurrency mining platform, valued at 4,000 million dollars, which will be trading on the Nasdaq. Matrixport, which is a recently estimated $ 1 billion financial services company.

This was reported by the Exchange through a statement released this Monday, September 27, 2021.

The communication also indicates that the measure is part of the “commitments to comply with local regulators” and will be enabled until October 26 so that clients can exercise safeguard actions on their assets.

“Binance constantly evaluates its product and service offering. We will restrict Singapore users from Regulated Payment Services in line with our commitment to compliance. Singapore users are advised to cease all related operations, withdraw fiat assets and redeem tokens before Wednesday 2021-10-26 04:00 AM UTC (12:00 PM UTC + 8) to avoid potential trade disputes,” according to the statement.

Under the watchful eye of regulators

The measure is announced by the exchange house three weeks after being “included in the investor alert list” issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in the first days of September. The purpose of the list is to inform Singaporean investors of the institutions that are not authorized by said entity. However, there is a trend or perception that is endorsed by the authority.

It is important to note that the Binance.sg platform is a separate exchange from Binance.com and at the moment it is unknown if the suspended services can be offered by this exchange. “It is also unclear whether Binance.com will continue to offer other services such as crypto-to-crypto and derivatives trading to Singaporean customers.”

It is important to note that the Binance.sg company is not registered on the regulators’ alert list.
