On Saturday, August 17, they immediately closed the operations of the social network X in Brazil, as announced by the owner of the platform, Elon Musk, arguing that the decision responds to censorship orders from Judge Alexander De Moraes.

“X claims that Moraes secretly threatened one of his legal representatives in Brazil with arrest if he did not comply with court orders to remove some content from his platform. “The Supreme Federal Court of Brazil, where Moraes sits, did not immediately respond to a request for comment,” local sources quoted.

It was learned that the social network service continues to be available to the population in the South American country.

Musk has described Judge De Moraes’ censorship measures as violating due process and user rights. The billionaire decided to close operations in Brazil to protect his workers.

Judge De Moraes had already issued threats of fines to X of up to 20,000 reais per day if it did not comply with the order to remove profiles that according to the magistrate have spread false news or are connected to the alleged coup attempt by former President Jair Bolsonaro in the elections that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won.
