Egypt accepted the help offered by the United States to unblock the Suez Canal, which has become impassable due to the grounding of a ship belonging to the Evergreen Line freight transport company.

“In relation to current efforts to move the ship that was stranded during its transit through the canal, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) values ​​the offer of the United States to contribute to these efforts”, said the managing body of the commercial artery.

The SCA affirmed that it hopes to cooperate with the North American country “in appreciation of its good initiative” and has stressed that the offer “confirms the friendly relations” between the two countries.

The Authority also expressed its appreciation for all the offers of assistance received and has underlined its commitment to achieve regularization of maritime traffic through the canal “as soon as possible.“

To unblock the canal, it will be necessary to dredge between 15,000 and 20,000 cubic meters of sand. The objective is for that area to reach a depth of between 12 and 16 meters that allows ship float, which was stranded on Tuesday.

According to estimates by the firm Lloyd’s List, the blockade of the canal prevents the daily transit of goods valued at around 9.7 billion dollars.
