Caracas will host Venezuela Energy Week 2026 from October 26 to 29. The event will bring together representatives of local and international companies, including US firms, in the Venezuelan capital to analyze investments in the national energy sector.

Participants will include “financiers, service providers, and global operators with the aim of channeling short-term capital into the energy sector.”

The summit has the support of the Ministry of People’s Power for Hydrocarbons and the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

Among the main objectives of the meeting is the analysis of steps to “accelerate investment in the country, home to the world’s largest proven oil reserves (more than 300 billion barrels) and 195 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.”

The agenda includes technical conferences on “exploration and production (upstream), digital optimization using artificial intelligence for reservoir management, and discussions on developing the local workforce.”

 A section called “Youth in Energy” will be included to address mentorship and knowledge transfer for the next generation of professionals.

The Colombian tax authorities have announced the new Resolution 000240, which mandates that all companies providing cryptocurrency services must provide information on users and their transactions.

The legal instrument establishes the reporting requirements to the DIAN (Colombian Tax Authority), including those for domestic and foreign exchanges, as well as cryptocurrency wallets.

The Resolution is dated December 24, 2025, and is “aligned with the OECD Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (CARF).” However, the obligations for those involved will begin in the 2026 tax year.

The main objective of the measure is to strengthen transparency in the crypto sector and combat tax evasion. In this regard, “providers must provide the tax authority with data such as the name, address, jurisdiction of residence, tax identification number, and date and place of birth of users.”

Furthermore, details such as “account ownership, transaction volume, number of units transferred, market value, and net balances will be requested. This includes cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ether, and stablecoins.”

The United States Federal Reserve launched a new digital payment system called FedNow, which will facilitate transactions for financial companies, service providers, among others.

European parliamentarians from the Green Party and socialist representatives propose to reform the law on Cryptoactive Markets, better known as the MiCA Law, to include non-fungible tokens (NFT) within the new regulatory framework, since the regulation does not contemplate issues related to digital collectibles.

The intention of the legislators, in reforming the regulation, is to incorporate NFT buying and selling platforms so that they can be regulated and protected “against money laundering (AML) in the European Union.”

According to what is expressed in the documentation presented by the group of legislators, it is necessary to consider it because “the regulations of the MiCA Law are designed to be complied with by service providers with cryptocurrencies.”

Assembly members also believe that it is important to regulate “decentralized autonomous organizations (DAO) and towards hardware wallets or cold purses.” The current legislation maintains “that the transfers made by the owners of the wallets with the exchanges must be notified to the regulatory entities.”

As will be recalled, the MiCA law was recently agreed by European negotiators with the fundamental purpose of “regulating issuers and service providers with crypto assets.” However, the new law must be sanctioned by the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, with a full vote, and once it is approved, its general implementation in the eurozone will begin 18 months after it comes into force.
