The direct maritime trade route between Venezuela and Turkey will be inaugurated on September 15th, according to the president of the Venezuelan-Turkish Business Chamber, Hayri Kucukyavuz, this week.

The route will seek to increase the trade balance between the two nations to $3 billion, according to an agreement reached between the parties. Kucukyavuz said in an interview with the private radio station Unión Radio that all that remains is to “fill the ships with containers and bring them to Venezuela.”

The first ship to sail from Turkey to Venezuela will carry “wheat flour, pasta, chocolate, motor oil, cosmetics, detergent, and shampoo.” For its part, Venezuela will send its trading partner “coffee, shrimp, octopus, sesame seeds, mung beans, and tropical fruits.”

According to the Turkish representative, routes between the two countries currently take up to 63 days to reach the ports, but with the new direct route, they will take 18 days on average, “which will facilitate reinvestment by entrepreneurs.”
