The French government approved the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in video surveillance systems that will be implemented to guarantee security during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The event, which will take place next year, from July 26 to August 11, will bring together the teams of the different sports disciplines in addition to thousands of visitors and to guarantee security, in addition to avoiding suspicious behavior, AI will be used.

The position has been defended by the French Ministry of the Interior, as well as the National Assembly, as a priority for all involved. In this sense, the security cameras “will have AI algorithms, it is not to identify people or profiles, but predetermined scenarios such as fires, traffic jams, abandoned packages and crowd movements.”

Based on the data collected, the authorities will decide if they should intervene, applying the mechanisms and protocols to safeguard people’s lives.

The measure, which was approved, must follow an analysis by the deputies in charge of giving the final answer on this technology.
