FTX CEO John J. Ray III confirmed to the WSJ that the company has begun discussions with various stakeholders to explore the possibility of reopening FTX.com. Ray took over as CEO last November after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Anonymous sources quoted by the WSJ revealed that FTX has been in contact with investors to establish a partnership that allows the resumption of operations of the platform, although it is likely that this will be done under a new brand.

At the time of its collapse, FTX was one of the leading cryptocurrency platforms globally, and the current management considers its business model to be viable, attributing the problems to the alleged criminal conduct of the former perpetrators.

The cryptocurrency platform’s crash occurred quickly last November after many users began withdrawing their funds due to reports questioning the company’s solvency.

Following the collapse, US authorities charged FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried and other officials at FTX and Alameda Research, its investment arm, with engaging in massive fraud in the management of the business. This made Bankman-Fried a billionaire and one of the most influential figures in the world of cryptocurrencies.

The administrators who took over the company after the bankruptcy revealed that Bankman-Fried left a deficit of approximately $9 billion. They have been working to remedy this situation by selling assets and recovering funds through donations and investments made with client money.

Bankman-Fried is currently awaiting trial, facing multiple fraud charges. His most recent attempt to dismiss some of the allegations was rejected last Tuesday.

So far, three of his ex-partners have admitted their guilt before the Prosecutor’s Office and have shown themselves willing to cooperate with the investigations.

The information was confirmed by the Colombian Foreign Ministry through a statement, which details that the Venezuelan government granted “approval for the appointment of Mr. Milton Rengifo Hernández as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Colombia in the neighboring country.”

Rengifo Hernández worked with Petro during his time as a congressman, as well as during his career as head of the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, where he served as Undersecretary of Environment and Local Affairs.

«With President Petro you can have differences, and criticize him in various facets, but in matters of transparency he is blameless, vertical. I was in his UTL (Legislative Work Unit) 1998-2010 and I saw him, angry, take a lobbyist out of the office who came in to offer money,” Rengifo said through the social network Twitter.

Last Friday, Petro announced the withdrawal of the government’s chief of staff, Laura Sarabia, as well as Armando Benedetti, after both were involved in a scandal of wiretapping and possible abuse of power.

The scandal spread this Sunday night, after Semana magazine published some audios that Benedetti sent to Sarabia, in which he threatened to reveal secrets about the financing of Petro’s presidential campaign.

In response to the scandal, the President of Colombia assured that he did not receive money from drug trafficking during his campaign and that the Colombian government has not done anything illegal.

Once an internal investigation was concluded, Sunak has made it known through a statement that “it has become clear that there has been a serious breach of the Ministerial Code” by Zahawi.

For this reason, Sunak has announced to Zahawi his decision “to remove him from his position in His Majesty’s Government”, in reference to the position of “minister without a portfolio” that Zahawi held until now as president of the Conservative party.

Zahawi was forced to pay a fine to settle a dispute over non-payment of taxes relating to the polling company YouGov, whose founding he participated in 2000 before making the leap to the House of Commons.

According to the BBC, the former minister’s tax problems were resolved between July and September 2022 and the payment would be around 5 million pounds (almost 5.7 million euros), although there were many voices calling for his resignation given the seriousness of the case.
