The announcement was made in conjunction with T-Mobile during the recent edition of the SuperBowl. It highlights the fact that SpaceX already has more than 7,000 Starlink satellites in operation; 450 of them are Direct to Cell.

“In addition to offering broadband Internet, these satellites function as telephone towers in space. When a T-Mobile Starlink user loses coverage, their phone will connect directly to the satellites that are passing overhead, and these will talk to each other to forward messages to a ground station.”

The service currently offers text messaging. But it is expected to soon offer voice calling options and data services.

The SpaceX company, owned by Elon Musk, “has shown that even video calls are feasible with Starlink Direct to Cell, but more satellites will be needed in orbit for the company to be able to offer widespread use of this type of complex service.”

Regarding the costs that users will have to pay starting in July, it is known that “T-Mobile customers will have to pay $15 per month to not be left without signal in areas without coverage ($10 per month if they take advantage of the exit offer). Customers of other operators will pay much more: $20 per month without discounts.”

Satellite telephony occupied one of the panels at the “Satellite Conference and Exhibition 2023” conference, which is being held this week in Washington (United States), and which was attended by SpaceX’s Vice President of Business Sales for Starlink, Jonathan Hofeller.

Hofeller explained that Starlink, the Internet service, already has more than a million users, and that the aerospace company manufactures six next-generation satellites and a thousand user terminals every day.

The manager also took advantage of the meeting to confirm that the company plans to “start testing” Starlink’s satellite transmission service to mobile devices this year.

This announcement follows the one already made by SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, last year, when he announced that they already had the first prototype of a Starlink 2.0 satellite seven meters long and weighing 1.25 tons.

The Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) landscape for 2023 reveals that there will be attacks on satellite technologies, drones will be used for proximity hacking and destructive attacks will increase.

Kaspersky’s analysts presented their vision for the future of advanced persistent threats, which will be influenced by the change in cybersecurity resulting from this year’s political turmoil, which will have a direct effect on the development of future sophisticated attacks.

The forecast for 2023 is based on the experience and activities of Kaspersky’s Global Research and Analysis Team (GreAT), who note that a cyber pandemic occurs “every six to seven years”, with the next one appearing to be as early as 2023.

The last such incident involved WannaCry ransomware in May 2017, which exploited the EternalBlue vulnerability to automatically spread to vulnerable drives.

Kaspersky analysts believe that the probability of the next WannaCry happening in 2023 is high, as current global tensions greatly increase the possibility of a ‘hack-and-leak’ style. from the ShadowBrokers group, specialized in leaking exploits.

The main changes will also be reflected in the new target types and attack scenarios. Experts believe that next year we may see attackers and specialists adept at mixing physical and cyber intrusions, using drones for proximity hacking.

The solar system has always aroused the curiosity of human beings, who have painted it in the Lascaux caves, who have studied it since the ancient world, continuing this work today, with NASA’s Artemis lunar mission or the images of the space from his new James Webb Telescope.

For this reason, the technology company has teamed up with NASA to incorporate more than sixty 3D models that will appear in searches on related topics, as the company explained in a statement published on its blog.

Google has highlighted that users who use the augmented reality view of planets, satellites and space artifacts from their mobile phone will be able to project these models in their environment.

Google lets you explore the solar system

This new project, which the Mountain View company has articulated from Google Arts & Culture, allows us to explore the solar system through stories about Neptune’s diamond showers, gas giants and dwarf planets, Saturn’s moons and the surface rock of Mars.

The initiative is possible thanks to the support of NASA, which also offers an overview of the best images taken by the Hubble telescope, shows the International Space Station and explains what the Mars Perseverance rover reveals about the place of planet Earth in the universe.

Google has anticipated that 3D annotations will be extended to other fields of study, such as cells, physics concepts and other educational models of its search engine.

The lnp2pBot software, developed by the Venezuelan programmer Francisco Calderón, makes it easy to acquire bitcoins or exchange them for fiat money and has allowed the platform to obtain a new commercial record.

The developer announced through the social network Twitter “302,127,905 sats have been exchanged through lnp2pBot, a project inspired by the Bitcoin Lightning Network. (…) More than 3 BTC have changed hands without custody and without KYC from the comfort of Telegram”.

In 20 days, the platform achieved the 3BTC mark. that is, “it took a little over three weeks for 100 million satellites to move in lnp2pBot and add to the 2 BTC that was registered at the beginning of May”, while the first BTC was achieved in the month of March 214 days after the launch of the lnp2pBot.

The bot mobilizes millions of satellites

Francisco Calderón indicated that since the telegram bot was launched “the number of users and orders completed by the system has been increasing”. However, he acknowledges that the bot is currently at “a peak” or high adoption by of the users.

According to Calderón, the number of people, as well as the large numbers, “play a determining role”, because he demonstrates the “bot’s ability to move millions of satellites”.

It is also important to take into consideration that the Bitcoin Lightning network has increased by 200 % in the last year, facilitating “fast, automatic, cheap exchanges without major limitations.”

The most recent flight was carried out internally for its sister company Starlink, with the aim of placing 53 satellites in orbit to strengthen the company’s internal telecommunications network to add a total of 2,300 satellites floating in space that allow it to offer its Internet.

The launch was recently carried out from Space Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, since that flight an important mark was broken because it is “the most times the same propellant has been reused of SpaceX Falcon rocket to date.

The 53 Starlink satellites were moved by the Falcon 9 and its booster returned to the ground virtually intact to be ready for its next mission, which would add its 13th mission. In its history, the device has several important distinctions, such as “the 2020 Crew Dragon Demo-2 mission with a new capsule with a crew inside.”

Celebrating two decades of success

The private space company SpaceX celebrated its first 20 years of history and during the celebration took stock of its triumphs, as well as some failures and are currently in a “critical period full of achievements, where the milestones seem to begin to accumulate one to one.”

The stories about the possibility of carrying out explorations with the Falcon 9 rocket remained in the past.
