The second version of the Starlink satellite Internet service will arrive in 2023 and will be able to transmit directly to the mobile devices of its users, eliminating “dead zones” around the world.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk teased the development and early details of Starlink V2 at the end of May in a walkthrough featured on the Everyday Astronaut YouTube channel.

So, without giving many details about its next launch, the businessman acknowledged that they already had the first prototype of a Starlink 2.0 satellite seven meters long and weighing 1.25 tons.

Now, the businessman announced that the second iteration of his satellite Internet service will arrive in 2023, as he indicated on his Twitter profile.

This service will be characterized mainly by its ability to transmit the network directly to the phones of its users, with the aim of being able to eliminate all “dead zones” and offer Internet to any corner of the world.

Starlink, the Internet satellite network of the SpaceX division, will exit the beta phase in which it is currently expected next month, as indicated by the CEO himself, Elon Musk.

Starlink offers early access to its Internet service based on a network of interconnected satellites with the “Better than Nothing Beta” program. During testing, users can experience variable data rates from 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s and latencies from 20ms to 40ms, as reported on their website.

This service is focused on rural areas, where the Internet connection via fiber or cable does not reach or is insufficient, and currently has more than 1,700 satellites in orbit, as reported in May.

The beta program began in October 2020, and since February the company began to extend the previous registration, also in Spain. Now, Musk, in response to a Twitter user, indicated that the beta phase will end “next month.”

Starlink requires the installation kit (a user terminal, a “WiFi router” and an antenna with which to connect to the satellite network).

Starlink, Space X’s satellite internet service, has a strict policy for users downloading pirated content with their connection which may result in service suspension or termination.

A user of the Stalink program shared his experience downloading pirated content without resorting to a virtual private network (VPN). His intention, as he explains on Reddit, was to see what could happen and the answer has not been long in coming: a notice about the violation of content protected by copyright.

The message sent by Starlink to the user indicates that they know that they have used the satellite Internet service to download copyrighted content “without the right to do so.” And they warn that “downloading protected content without a license or other right to do so is a violation of Starlink’s usage policy.”

The company finished by stating that using this connection to download illegal content may lead to the suspension or termination of the service, as well as expose the user to a possible lawsuit from the owner of the rights of the downloaded material.

With the ‘Better than Nothing Beta’ program, Starlink offers early access to its Internet service, based on a network of interconnected satellites, which has currently managed to put more than 1,300 into orbit.
