Apple is bringing a first to the video game scene with the launch of SaruTobi, the technology company’s first product for iOS that allows Bitcoin micropayments through the Lightning Network, developed by ZBD.

The product was first launched in 2015, but was discontinued following Apple’s internal policies. Now, it is returning to the market in what has been considered “a shift in its closed policy toward alternative payment systems.”

On the other hand, it was reported that the launch of this feature comes “following growing regulatory pressure in Europe, particularly regarding compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires large technology companies to allow greater flexibility for developers.”

Regarding gaming, thanks to the company ZBD, SaruTobi allows players to make instant, low-cost micropayments using Bitcoin’s Lightning Network.

The system also allows for reverse monetization. That is, “players can earn small fractions of BTC (known as ‘sats’ or ‘satoshis’) by completing certain actions in the game. These sats can be used within the app itself to enhance their experience, thus creating a self-sustaining micro-ecosystem.”

According to André Neves, co-founder and CTO of ZBD, the new feature offered by Apple for iOS could unleash a new way for video games to generate revenue and encourage user interaction.
