A recent announcement by Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Co-Chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Dmitry Chernyshenko, indicates that Russia and Cuba will work together to develop a cancer vaccine.

This innovation will be possible thanks to the scientific exchanges between the two countries that have been underway since last year.

In this regard, it was revealed that in 2025, “Russia supplied Cuba with 600 substances for the production of pharmaceuticals.” As a further step in this exchange, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the “joint development of an oncovaccine.”

Regarding the cancer vaccine, last May the director of the Cuban Institute of Oncology and Radiology, Luis Eduardo Martín, indicated that the two countries are conducting scientific exchanges with the N. P. Napalkov Clinical Scientific and Practical Center, based in St. Petersburg, Russia, including the development of cancer medications.

Currently, trials are being conducted on Cuban patients with a biosimilar of the monoclonal antibody Pembrolizumab, showing good results in the localization of melanomas and lymphomas.
