China’s advancement in robotics includes a pioneering project based on the use of UBTech Walker robots for border control and logistics with Vietnam.

According to a report by the International Federation of Robotics, China has long used robots extensively in factories. Last year, they installed nearly 300,000 robots.

Now, the humanoid robots from Shenzhen-based UBTech Robotics have signed a contract to supply their latest models to a testing project that China will conduct near the border with Vietnam.

The deal is part of China’s effort to integrate advanced robotics into public services and border management. The robots will be responsible for “testing the practical applications of humanoids in the real world, such as assisting in border management, guiding travelers, and managing general logistics.”

While Musk has ventured to make predictions like these in the past, sparking both support and opposition on social media, only time will tell what will happen to the labor market and cash in the coming years, as rapid technological and energy advancements will be required to make such predictions a reality.

France wants to develop its own robot army, which would likely join the Armed Forces by 2040, thanks to the combination of advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.

The European country could have “thousands of troops” made up of its own robots by 2040, which would help in cases of human exposure in territorial defense situations.

According to General Bruno Baratz, commander of future combat programs for the French Army, the nation is designing “the first robot prototypes, which would comprise an army of thousands of units.” The first tests are expected to take place in 2028 “and by 2040 they would have an entire fleet ready.”

They are banking on ground robots capable of equipping the national defense forces. “We believe we will be able to deploy advanced systems with practical utility for our combat elements well before 2040,” Baratz stated.

So far, they have tested “bipedal and quadruped robots, drones that attack from the sky, and wheeled machines.”

According to General Tony Maffeis, head of the Army’s technical branch, they still need to demonstrate “that (the machines) can be more effective when coming into contact with an adversary. The robot should facilitate combat, not hinder it.”

Venezuela became champion of the First Global Robotics Challenge, which was held in Singapore on Tuesday.

The team of young Venezuelans, sponsored by the Government of Zulia, managed to win the Albert Einstein Award with their robot called “Kashi.”

The Kashi robot, which in the Wayu language means “the Moon”, was the sensation of the world championship, due to its great agility and speed in the tests carried out during the four days of the event.

The Venezuelan delegation that participated in the event was made up of students from the Salto Ángel School in Zulia.

The Venezuelan representation also won the silver medal in the Grand Global Challenge category and the Social Media Award for the use of social networks to disseminate their project.

This was announced by the governor of Zulia, Manuel Rosales, through the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The First Global Challenge is an international robotics competition in which young people between 14 and 17 years of age participate and which is held each year in a different country.

The multinational company Nvidia, developed a series of robotic AI brains  in 2018 and recently unveiled its new module called Jetson AGX Orin, which has a processing power six times faster than its predecessor Xavier and a super reduced size.

The new Orin was created to be a “low-power AI supercomputer”, especially for use in “robotics, autonomous and medical devices, as well as extreme AI applications that currently don’t seem possible.”

Robotics has very specialized procedures and requires a chip called a brain with a very high processing capacity, capable of executing about “200 billion operations per second“, capable of performing various AI applications with efficient energy consumption.

Orin was made with an “Nvidia Ampere GPU architecture” characterized by an Arm Cortex-A78AE chip, with “Deep Learning specifications, vision accelerators and the ability to run multiple Artificial Intelligence apps”.

Nvidia has long tried to lead in the field of autonomous cars and estimates that the Jetson AGX Orin will be released in the first months of next year, although the exact date and price at which it will be marketed is unknown.

The Ministry of Transport of Colombia has announced the possibility of implementing the use of new technologies to collect, store, process and distribute information in order to seek an improvement in transport operations, management and safety, in its announcement it also reported the possibility of including blockchain technology in the proposal.

The measure announced by the representative of the ministerial portfolio, Ángela María Orozco, in the newspaper El Tiempo, represents a joint effort that the government has been developing to establish a new comprehensive policy for the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and thereby face the challenges of mobility in the country.

Orozco stressed that the proposal “will have implications for the quality of life, economic development and competitiveness of the different regions, influencing environmental sustainability and social cohesion, essential for democratic prosperity and the development of the regions.”
