When they reach retirement age, workers become dependent on the income represented by their pension. In the European Union countries, the highest allowance is in Luxembourg, where retirees receive €31,385. The lowest is in Bulgaria, where pensioners receive €3,611 annually.

The difference in amounts leaves open the door to debate about the quality of life of retirees, since in most cases they depend exclusively on their pension.

The most recent data from Eurostat and the OECD “show that this is a problem that knows no borders: the average pension in the EU was around €16,128 in 2022, which translates to €1,345 per month.”

Concentrating the data solely on the EU, as mentioned, the lowest pension is found in Bulgaria and the highest in Luxembourg, with allowances of €3,611 per year and €31,385 per year, respectively.

However, a broader analysis, including the candidate countries and those of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), shows that “Albania is the country with the lowest retirement pension in Europe, at just €1,648 per year (€137 per month), a huge difference of more than €38,000 compared to Iceland, where it is close to €36,000 per year (€2,997 per month), according to the latest Eurostat data.”

Norway and Denmark, on the other hand, have pensions above 30,000 euros. In Sweden and Finland, the annual payment is 22,436 and 21,085 euros, respectively.

Other countries also considered are Turkey, 2,942 euros per year; Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3,041 euros per year; Serbia, 3,486 euros per year; Montenegro, 3,962 euros per year.

In his recent public reappearance, Buffett announced his retirement to make way for a new CEO who will take over later this year, assuring that he will remain present “and could be helpful in some cases.”

The entrepreneur clarified that he will not sell a single Berkshire Hathaway share for financial reasons, as he believes the company’s prospects “will be better under Greg’s management than under mine.”

Buffett’s decision was announced during Berkshire’s annual dinner, attended by some 40,000 people. The gathering was an opportunity to issue a warning to President Donald Trump: “Trade cannot be an act of war, and I think it has led to bad things. We should seek trade with the rest of the world; we should do what we do best, and they should do what they do best.”

Among other comments related to the current financial landscape, Buffett asserted that “soon his company will re-enter the financial market because opportunities will open up for which we will be happy to have the cash.”

In the recent Iowa primary of the Republican Party, held on January 15, DeSantis came in second, trailing Trump by a margin of 21%. The Florida Governor, who officially launched his candidacy in July 2023, acknowledged the lack of support and visibility needed to stay in the race.

During his campaign, DeSantis pledged to ban an eventual version of the digital dollar if he reached the presidency. “If I am president, on the first day we will cancel the central bank’s digital currency. Done. Dead. It won’t happen in this country,” he said at an event in Iowa.

The social network had announced that on April 1 it would begin to withdraw the inherited blue badges, in such a way that individual users who want to keep it had to access a Twitter Blue subscription and organizations and companies, to another aimed at them, known as ‘Verified Organizations’.

However, many have been the accounts that since the beginning of this month have maintained the blue badge without having paid a subscription. To rectify this situation, the current owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, has announced on his profile that “the final date” in which the inherited blue badges will be withdrawn will be April 20.

Legacy blue badges were earned using the old and free process that only required the interested user to apply for verification and meet a number of requirements. Its purpose was to prevent impersonation, supporting that the user or the organization that managed it was who they claimed to be and that, in addition, it was a notable actor for public debate.

This system never convinced Musk, who was always critical of the policy that granted or withdrew the aforementioned badge. For this reason, with his new role as owner of the social network, he incorporated the blue badge into the Twitter Blue subscription, so that anyone who wanted to have it only had to pay for it, although they also had to meet certain requirements.

Along with this decision, it also introduced different colors for the badge, leaving blue for individual user accounts, gray for institutional accounts, and yellow for other organizations and companies. The latter also have their own subscription, in which they can link accounts to their profile so that they appear associated.
