The Italian Government has presented a bill in Parliament that includes 14.3 billion euros in aid for workers, companies and families with the aim of softening the economic crisis unleashed by rising prices.

“I confirm the Government’s will not to abandon workers, retirees and companies,” Prime Minister Mario Draghi said during a meeting at the Chigi Palace with labor unions, according to the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday the report presented by Draghi and the Minister of Economy, Daniele Franco, to ask Parliament for “authorization to resort to debt for a total amount of 14,300 million euros in 2022“.

On the other hand, the founder of the 5 Star Movement (M5S), the comedian Beppe Grillo, would have threatened the party’s leader, Giuseppe Conte, with leaving the formation if the two-term limit is repealed in the face of the early elections that will take place on September 25 after the resignation of Draghi as head of the Executive.

The vote will be the first held in the autumn in the country’s history, and Draghi will remain as caretaker prime minister until a new government takes office.

The Venezuelan Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC in Spanish) announced the arrest of a group of criminals who operated within the state of Monagas and were dedicated to stealing cryptocurrencies from retired workers of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

Douglas Rico, national director of the CICPC, reported through his Instagram network that three citizens who made up the gang “Los Crackers de Oriente” and various equipment used in criminal operations were captured.

The members of the gang frequently entered the “accounts of retired PDVSA workers to steal the cryptocurrencies that the victims had in the Patria application, a platform that works as a wallet for the national crypto asset El Petro.”

Sophisticated method to get the passwords

A PDVSA worker reported the disappearance of his funds from the Patria wallet and the authorities of the CICPC Computer Crimes Division carried out the corresponding investigations, detecting that the fraudsters obtained the private keys of the users and entered the accounts of the homeland platform.

Once they managed to enter, they transferred the cryptocurrencies by falsifying the identity documents, later, the hackers exchanged the cryptoactives for bolivars that they transferred to their personal bank accounts.

The director of the institution did not reveal how the cybercriminals managed to access the private keys of those affected.

It should be noted that the information indicated that some deceased retirees were also victims of this gang of fraudsters, which suggests that they had access to the database of the workers of the state oil company.

The Venezuelan Finance Observatory reported that “economic activity in Venezuela fell 2.2 % in the second quarter of 2021″, registering a total of 25 consecutive quarters in the fall in the economic activity index. However, the reported figure is lower than that recorded in the first quarter, which reached 33.7 %.

The non-governmental organization highlighted that the indicator is made up of different sectors: oil, finance and government, in which the devaluation was evidenced as a consequence of the shortage of “income and inflation”.

According to the organization, one of the most affected sectors is the financial one, due to the banking reserve and the size of the sector. The economic collapse in Venezuela has had a significant and negative impact on “the wages of active workers, retirees and pensioners in the country, which have substantially reduced consumption in their homes.”

It is important to highlight that the NGO recently reported that inflation in the Caribbean country was in the order of 10.6 %, while the interannual was at 1,743 % and that accumulated in the last 8 months of 2021 adds up to 470.3 %.

The devaluation in Venezuela has caused a process of informal dollarization of the country, where citizens carry out almost all their transactions of purchase and sale of services and products with the US dollar.
