The social network Instagram is increasing the safety of minors with new live-streaming restrictions, as parents must provide consent.

Instagram Live will be controlled by parents with the new security measures. On the other hand, teens will also not be able to watch live videos without permission.

“The technology company strengthens the protection of young people” under 16. Teen accounts, as is known, are created for users who have different settings than standard accounts. This is because “to make any changes to the settings, their owners need the permission of an adult.”

They are private accounts by default; This means that children and minors who use them are not authorized to “accept new followers, while people who don’t follow them will not be able to view the content they post, much less interact with them.”

To provide protection against bots and malicious users, the direct message settings are also changing for teen accounts.

The measure seeks to raise awareness about security, maintaining the default settings for teens, while also providing them with more age-appropriate experiences.

Regarding Instagram Live, Meta “will require minors under 16 to have adult consent to disable the feature that blurs images suspected of containing nudity in direct messages.”

The updates will take effect in the coming months, giving parents greater peace of mind when their teens use Meta’s apps.
