The elections this Sunday, May 25, in Venezuela will allow citizens to vote for 569 positions, including 285 deputies to Parliament, 24 governors, and 260 regional legislators.

The National Electoral Council will oversee the civic conduct of this electoral process, with a voter registry of 21,485,000 citizens eligible to vote.

Through the Republic Plan, 412,887 military personnel will be mobilized to guard the voting centers and electoral materials, “with the goal of ensuring the peaceful conduct of the process. For its part, the state-owned electricity company Corpoelec will deploy 15,664 workers to ensure the electricity supply during election day.”

In a statement, the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV) reiterated the suspension of commercial flights between Venezuela and Colombia starting this Monday, May 19, until the afternoon of Monday, May 26.

On its social media, the local airline indicated that cargo flights between the two countries will continue, and commercial flights will resume on May 26 at 6:00 p.m.

The statement says: “The aviation community, passengers, the tourism sector in general, and related parties are hereby informed that we have received notification from the aviation authority through NOTAM C0657/25 dated May 19, 2025, establishing the temporary suspension of general and commercial aviation passenger flights to/from the Republic of Colombia.”

Travelers with scheduled itineraries during the flight suspension periods between the two countries are advised to contact their airline to learn about the contingency measures that apply in this case.

The president of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela, Elvis Amoroso, announced on February 19 a change of date for the regional and parliamentary elections. The election event was scheduled for April 27, but will now be held on May 25.

According to Amoroso, the change of date was agreed “at the request of the various actors in the democratic life of the country.”

In response, the regional and parliamentary elections were moved to practically a month after the date originally announced by the CNE. The official did not give details of the democratic actors who made the request, although it is known that they requested more time to organize this important electoral contest.

The president of the CNE indicated that in these elections they will guarantee “the greatest reliability, transparency and the corresponding audits.”
