It was jointly organized by the entertainment and recreation company, Venemergencia, and PsicoData UCAB, transforming the venue into a space for meeting and emotional support, where even The opinions and voices of survivors of the double earthquake in La Guaira were heard.

The alliance between Grupo Venemergencia and PsicoData, which provides professional emotional support to Venezuelans via WhatsApp, remains active. Additionally, in partnership with the Venemergencia Foundation, in-person courses on basic life support and psychological first aid are being offered in various communities.

This well-attended and timely inter-institutional event allowed for the collection of live data to analyze and discuss how we feel, how each person is coping with the experience and impact of the earthquakes, and how we continue preparing to fully return to normalcy and regular life. Regarding broader preparedness for contingencies or emergencies, emphasis was placed on continuing to make prevention increasingly effective.

The event began with a general introduction by Dr. Andrés Simón González-Silén, Executive President and co-founder of Venemergencia, followed by a commentary review of the collected data presented by Celibeth Guarín, psychologist and researcher at PsicoData Venezuela.

Dr. González-Silén emphasized the value of citizen volunteers, acknowledging the effective collaborative effort demonstrated by private companies, government institutions, and academia

After individual presentations by the speakers, including Father Danny Socorro, psychologist and Coordinator of PsicoData Venezuela; and Esteninf Olivarez, journalist and correspondent for international media outlets—such as the Spanish-language US network Univision — they formed a panel that provided further information and interacted directly with the attendees.

Laureano Márquez: “Humor wants us all to be better and well”

To conclude the event in grand style, both because of the speaker’s unique background and the size of the Cinex screen — where films are usually shown — Laureano Márquez, a political scientist and lecturer, a leading figure in academically grounded, reflective humor in Venezuela, had the audience laughing with his online presentation. He emphasized our capacity for recovery, highlighting the resilience that characterizes Venezuelans.

María Laura García, a journalist focused on well-being, was the presenter and moderator of the Forum.

As part of the alliance, Fundación Venemergencia and PsicoData UCAB have been offering in-person courses on basic life support and psychological first aid in different communities in Venezuela

In 2025, Chile’s GDP grew by 2.5 %, with inflation closing at 3.5 %, its lowest level in five years.

According to the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (Imacec), which encompasses 90 % of goods and services and is considered a leading estimate of Chile’s GDP, the figure exceeded market expectations. The central bank attributed this to growth in mining, services, and commerce.

With these figures, the country is projected to avoid a technical recession following the negative figures for the first quarter of 2026, although preliminary results for the second quarter of this year will be released next Tuesday, August 18.

The report details that goods production grew 3.9 % year-on-year, thanks to the performance of the mining sector, particularly copper. Commercial activity saw annual growth of 5.4 %, with notable increases in wholesale sales of machinery and equipment, and sales in specialized clothing stores, grocery stores, and through online retail platforms.

In the services sector, the increase was 1.7 % year-on-year, particularly in the areas of health and education.

The Central Bank of Venezuela reported single-digit inflation at the end of May 2026, the lowest inflation rate in the last 19 months.

The publication on the BCV’s official website also notes that the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) registered a month-on-month variation of 6.3 %, adding that “With this marked downward trend, we are entering a path of deceleration for 2026.”

The economic decisions made by President (E) Delcy Rodríguez have been firm so far in 2026. First, the restructuring of the economic team, appointing Calixto Ortega Sánchez as vice president of the area and then the economist Luis Pérez as president of the Central Bank of Venezuela. In addition, there is the call for the restructuring of the external debt and the reintegration of Venezuela into international organizations, such as the World Bank and the IMF, which adds transparency to the process.

This has led to and made possible a series of economic successes, including GDP growth in the first quarter of the year, as well as reaching single-digit inflation in May.

The aim is a more efficient exchange rate system to guarantee control of inflation and investment in capital goods

Finally, the Central Bank president had already warned of this, stating, “We are going to have single-digit inflation and a significant slowdown for the rest of the year,” which, according to economic analysts, is a major achievement after only a month in office.

The economic plan focuses primarily on the recovery of the oil and mining industries, which will guarantee economic growth, and secondly on strengthening a more efficient exchange rate system to ensure inflation control and investment in capital goods.

Ultimately, the recovery plan aims for a long period of economic growth with moderate inflation.

In response to this situation, the fifteenth edition of ESET Security Day, one of the most significant annual technology events held in the Venezuelan capital, took place to showcase the new cybersecurity paradigm, where attacks have ceased to be isolated incidents and have become automated operations enhanced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.

Michele Flammia, General Manager of ESET Venezuela, highlighted the value of these informative forums for protecting the region’s business ecosystem. During the event, the brand’s specialists demonstrated, through a live simulation, how modern groups operate and how technologies such as XDR (Extended Detection and Response) and threat intelligence allow for action before the impact materializes.

Innovation in response and strategic advantages

Camila Oliveira, Channel Manager of ESET LATAM (currently based in the regional office in Argentina), addressed cybersecurity as a competitive advantage, inspired by Stephen Covey’s bestseller, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. During his presentation, he detailed the capabilities of the continuous training programs (AARNES) and the value of the managed detection service:

“We want companies to understand that technology and cybersecurity are not an expense, but an investment. ESET’s Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service has the shortest detection time on the market. Competitors use this technology differently, as they don’t offer 24/7 support and their response times are longer,” Oliveira emphasized.

David González, Security Researcher at ESET Mexico, delivered a keynote address on the impact of generative AI models since the arrival of ChatGPT, a platform that has already reached 400 million users. The expert warned that this widespread adoption has led to a dangerous reduction in the technical barrier for criminals:

“In the cybercriminal world, we are witnessing a democratization of capabilities. It is no longer necessary to possess advanced technical knowledge to carry out an attack; AI allows for the generation of malicious code or the compromise of organizations in a matter of minutes. Time is working against the defenders,” González warned. Given this, he urged organizations to adopt the Diamond Model to dynamically analyze four key aspects of the adversary: infrastructure, capabilities (such as zero-day exploits), victims, and the attacker’s motivations.

An unprotected market against autonomous attacks

For his part, José Luis Rangel, Commercial Manager of ESET Venezuela warned about the growing interest of digital criminal organizations in targeting critical sectors such as healthcare, energy, and telecommunications using autonomous AI agents. Rangel posed a direct question to the companies and attendees: “What are you doing? It is important that we consider what the organization is doing to prepare before an attack occurs.”

Finally, Carlos López, Pre-Sales Manager at ESET Venezuela, provided critical metrics on corporate neglect in the face of technological evolution over the last 15 years. He explained that between 35 % and 37 % of companies lack basic defenses, and only 41 % have proactive detection and response capabilities.

In addition, 39 % of firms do not have a defined policy for the use of artificial intelligence, which facilitates data breaches. The regional situation reflects that one in four organizations in Latin America does not implement basic security measures, 51 % report having suffered incidents, and it is estimated that an attack occurs every 39 seconds globally.

The speakers emphasized that companies can no longer rely on reactive solutions, which compels corporate leaders to become directly involved in cyber defense and adopt advanced visibility tools to neutralize threats before suffering irreversible financial impacts.

This was reported by Julio Baldomero, director of Clinical Research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).

According to the specialist, “the final data confirmed the hypothesis put forward by the researchers.” In this regard, Baldomero stated that they managed to resolve the “painful and inflammatory symptoms of the joints caused by this virus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes and has affected tropical regions of the world.”

What is Jusvinza?

The medication is essentially an innovative therapeutic product developed at the CIGB (Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology). The active ingredient “is a peptide originally designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis” that was incorporated into the Cuban national protocol during the COVID-19 pandemic for use in “severely ill patients, helping to reduce mortality on the Caribbean island before the arrival of vaccines.”

Clinical trials with promising results

In early December 2025, two clinical trials began to verify the therapeutic effect and safety of Jusvinza in these types of patients.

“The first study was conducted at the Diez de Octubre Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in Havana and included 174 people in the post-acute stage; while the second was carried out at the Faustino Pérez Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in the western province of Matanzas, with 120 individuals in the chronic stage of the disease.”

The conclusions of both studies indicate that 70 % of the patients achieved the expected results. Specialists demonstrated the efficacy and safety of the product. Furthermore, it was found that “it is not only effective in relieving joint symptoms, but its effects are long-lasting, preventing patients from developing the chronic form of the disease.”

The executive mentioned the significant progress made at the end of 2025. “The supply of spare parts, which for years was insufficient, now exceeds demand and allows us to easily meet the needs of the vehicle fleet. This change accompanies a notable rebound in vehicle sales, which have grown rapidly over the last three years.”

Last year, sales reached 38,000 units, representing an additional 120 % growth since 2023. “Three brands accounted for 80% of those sales.
According to the industry leader, the recovery of the oil sector will be crucial to sustaining this growth rate.
These companies, however, have requested guarantees to return to the Venezuelan oil industry, given the multimillion-dollar investment required in infrastructure and refining processes necessary for crude oil treatment.

One of the main demands of the international oil companies is political stability, stating that in the face of any risk, such as asset expropriation, the companies require guarantees from the United States.

Another demand, which goes hand in hand with US guarantees, is the fulfillment of Trump’s promises to “help them bring in equipment and personnel, export oil and gas, and generate revenue. Furthermore, they must have the assurance that this support will continue through future administrations and changes in Congress.”

They have also demanded improvements in tax conditions, financial mechanisms for paying outstanding debts, and access to talent in the face of the exodus of skilled personnel in recent years.

The document describes Venezuela’s electrical grid as “deteriorated and fragile after years of underinvestment and lack of maintenance.”

Data cited in the report indicates that Venezuela’s electricity generation capacity has fallen by more than 30 %, a situation that has a significant impact on “industrial production, oil activity, and the daily lives of millions of Venezuelans.”

Washington maintains that without a functional electrical grid, crude oil production cannot be recovered, “a key component of the agreement announced on January 6.”

The electrical system recovery plan includes “allowing the entry of equipment and spare parts—as well as specialized technical services—to address failures that have accumulated over the years.” This will create the minimum conditions for the country to increase its oil production and restore basic services.
