The Venezuelan government prohibited the export of construction materials through Official Gazette No. 43,409. The measure will be in effect until December 31, 2026, according to Decree No. 5,376.

According to the official gazette, the export of various construction materials intended to address the effects of the June 24 earthquakes is suspended, assigning them Legal Regime 1, corresponding to “Prohibited Export,” through a partial modification of the current Customs Tariff.

This government measure is aimed at preserving the materials needed for reconstruction in the areas affected by the June earthquakes, particularly in La Guaira state and the capital, Caracas, but also in other states of the country with severe structural damage.

The Venezuelan government requested assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for housing construction following the earthquakes.

Although the actual number may exceed the estimate, some 17,345 people lost their homes during the earthquakes of June 24. Therefore, the authorities have requested support from the UNDP to initiate an immediate response plan, as reported by acting president Delcy Rodríguez on Sunday, July 5.

Rodríguez contacted the UNDP Administrator, Alexander De Croo, thanking him for the organization’s “willingness to support Venezuela in its response to the earthquakes, which left at least 3,342 dead and 16,740 injured.”

The president also requested support “for promoting educational programs, as well as job training and employment for the affected communities.”
