The reciprocal tariffs imposed by United States President Donald Trump were declared illegal by a federal trade court on Wednesday, ruling that the president alone does not have the right to impose this tax package.

The ruling was released by three judges who “ruled that the IEEPA (Integrated Provisional Agreement) that Trump invoked to justify the tariffs does not give the president the unilateral power to implement these universal taxes.”

However, on Thursday, May 29, one day after the ruling was issued, Trump administration lawyers submitted the case to the Court of Appeals, which ordered the reinstatement of the reciprocal tariffs pending a review of all aspects of the appeal.
