The illustrious Venezuelan poet and essayist, Rafael Cadenas, was honored with the prestigious 2022 Cervantes Prize, considered the highest recognition for literary work in Spanish. The award was presented at a ceremony held in the auditorium of the University of Alcalá de Henares, in Madrid, Spain, and was awarded by the kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Leticia, in the presence of prominent personalities from the literary field.

At 93 years of age, Cadenas received the award with deep emotion, expressing that this honor was beyond him. During the tribute, outstanding passages from the poet’s life were read, highlighting his career as a teacher and his beginnings in the world of poetry. In his acceptance speech, Cadenas expressed his gratitude and admiration for other writers present at the ceremony.
