Australian blockchain education startup Coinformant carried out a study that determined that Indonesia ranks first among the countries with the most interest in digital currencies in the world this year.

The Asian country obtained a higher interest score on cryptocurrencies, with 5.73 out of 10 in a combination of the factors considered, which are: the number of Google searches, the number of articles published about crypto, the increase in the level of participation and ownership.

According to data provided by Coinformant, Indonesia recorded a “massive 1,772 % increase in the number of people interacting with articles about cryptocurrencies year after year.” Obtaining an increase of 133 % in the articles published related to the crisp market in Indonesia, while Finland registered an increase of the order of 725 %.

Indonesia was also the second country to obtain the highest ranking in terms of the increase in Google searches, linked to cryptocurrencies in the last 12 months, increasing by more than 572 %, according to published information.

Latin America on the way to the top

The country that ranked second on the global interest in the crypto market was Chile, with a score of 5.26 out of 10, and the third place was occupied by Argentina with a 4.79 score.

It is important to note that the data reflects that Chile surpassed Indonesia in the factor called the number of Google searches related to cryptocurrencies in the last 12 months, obtaining 707 % more searches on Google year-on-year.

The Coinformant report highlights that the applied methodology also includes information on the global ownership of digital currencies, highlighting that the country with “the highest proportion of cryptocurrencies is Ucrania, where more than 12 % of the population owns cryptocurrencies.”

According to information supplied by one of Coinformant’s representatives, Indonesia is leading in terms of overall increase in interest in crypto. However, the United States is the largest in terms of participation and other factors. A Coinformant spokesperson noted: “When looking only at volume, the US always ranks first.”
