The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed this Sunday from New Delhi the creation of an international body on artificial intelligence (AI) to deal with the dangers involved in this new technology and also its potential benefits.

This body would be similar to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which has generated reports that have served to achieve important consensuses such as the Kyoto Protocol or the Paris Agreement to combat the deterioration of the planet.

“The crucial question is how to harness a technology that changes so rapidly. It is very telling that even the creators and inventors of AI are asking political leaders for regulations,” Von der Leyen said from New Delhi, where the G20 annual summit is being held.

Last March, Elon Musk or Steve Wozniak asked for a moratorium of at least six months on the development of AI to give the industry time to create security standards for the development of this technology and avoid possible harm.
