The technology giant Microsoft will officially close its iconic Internet Explorer browser starting June 15 to make way for Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer Mode with better features.

When Internet Explorer was released, it quickly became the most widely used and comprehensive web browser. However, over the years it has become one of the “most hated” programs and which has been starred in “more memes”; so in mid-June the Microsoft company will stop offering support for its desktop app.

With this decision, the company wants the few people who still use this browser to stop doing so and change their experience to the Microsoft Edge and Explorer Mode programs so that they can appreciate the advantages and options that these applications have.

As it will be remembered, the technological giant at the end of 2020 “made a drastic decision that encouraged many Internet Explorer users to change their browser”. At that time, “the company decided to block, for security reasons, several web pages in IE.”

The announced shutdown of this browser will take place on some versions of Windows 10, specifically version 20H2 or later. People who still have the Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 version installed on their computers will be able to use it.

At a meeting held in the Casa Rosada, Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina, and Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) agreed on financing in the order of 2,670 million dollars for the development of social, technological and infrastructure projects.

The information was provided by Government House personnel, detailing that during the meeting the rulers analyzed “eight credits for more than 1,100 million dollars” that were signed on October 13.

According to government information, 300 million dollars will be allocated to the project to support the Argentine National Plan against Hunger “ALIMENTAR II”. More than 243 million dollars will be used to develop and manufacture the “ARSAT – SG1 satellite“, while 225 million will be allocated to the renovation of the “M” branch of the Belgrano railway.

The rest of the budget will allow to leverage a program to support the Strategic Plan for vaccination against COVID-19, financing for school infrastructure and modernization of the air traffic surveillance system.

The presidential information highlights that they also agreed a new financing for 570 million dollars for these last months of 2021 and an additional 1,000 million dollars in 2022 that will promote the integral development of the country.

For his part, the president of the CAF, Díaz-Granado, thanked the Argentine Government for the “approach it has given to the use of this multilateral bank”, highlighting that the organization seeks to work “hand in hand with science and technology, focused on people.”

The cybersecurity market is growing rapidly in Germany amid fears of extortion programs and data leaks, the digital association Bitkom reported today.

For this year, an expenditure of 6,200 million euros (7,160 million dollars) is expected in hardware, software and services in this area. This means that the threshold of € 6 billion will be exceeded for the first time. The figure is 9.7 % higher than the previous record year of 2020 (5.6 billion euros in sales), according to calculations carried out by market research company IDC for Bitkom.

“Cyberattacks have become an existential threat to the economy,” said Susanne Dehmel, a member of the Bitkom Executive Board. For companies and administrations, a high level of IT security is essential for survival and must be an integral part of good management, she added. “The coronavirus crisis has shown how vulnerable many companies are. Spending on cybersecurity will continue to increase in the future.”

Increasing turnover

Half of the funds for increased IT security will go to services. Spending is expected to amount to € 3.1 billion in 2021, an increase of 9.8 %. German companies will invest around 2.3 billion euros in computer security software this year, 11.4 % more than in the previous year. Another 815 million euros will be spent on special devices and hardware (4.9 % more).

For next year, Bitkom forecasts a turnover increase of almost ten percent, to 6.8 billion euros. Growth rates of this magnitude will continue in the coming years. For 2025, the association foresees a turnover of the sector of about 8,900 million euros.

Bitkom called for computer security to be established as a political axis in the new legislature. “The safety of our technologies decisively determines the resilience to crises, the success and the sovereignty of the German economy,” said Dehmel.
