The consolidation of the bank and its sustainable growth placed it – in the last two years – as the fifth financial force in the private banking segment.

These results achieved have been possible with products, services and projects supported by innovation and the commitment of men and women to make the institution one of the most important in the country.

In the last three years, Bancamiga has quintupled the number of clients, multiplied by seven the number of accounts and to date is the private bank with the largest number of sales points placed, by managing to put in the hands of its clients (natural and legal) more than 150,000 units, in alliance with Soluciones Integrales Tecnológica SITCA.

“It has been very significant to close this year with 43 agencies distributed throughout the national territory after inaugurating six new branches during 2023. In two years we have doubled our presence in the country, with an important positioning in western Venezuela, which has “It has been the basis for our growth,” said Ariel Martínez, the executive president of Bancamiga Banco Universal.

Martínez expressed that more than 578 operations, throughout the country, and the entry into operation of the Mobile Unit have been determining factors in this development and in the growing banking use of more Venezuelans. Since its entry into operation on May 18, the mobile unit visited 22 locations, managing to bank 3,734 clients.

The Bancamiga Móvil initiative is a response to the needs of Venezuelans. At this point of business, people have the opportunity to learn about and acquire Bancamiga products and services, including opening accounts with minimum requirements, card changes, the Mastercard Debit Card, the MasterKids card, and financing plans for POS.

Bancamiga registered an increase in total deposits in 2023. The relative growth of the institution was 205.63% in bolivars and 52.43% in dollars. For its part, the credit portfolio reached an annual growth of 280.03%.

Martínez confirmed that “Bancamiga is innovative and disruptive, fundamental pillars to sustain growth. In 2023, our bank became the first institution in Venezuela to present Contactless technology, and it did so with its points of sale and with the Mastercard Debit Card, which allows you to make online purchases and pay at points of sale abroad.”

Bancamiga: Together to build a better country

In 2023, Bancamiga was selected as the second-best financial institution and the sixth-best company to work for in Venezuela. It also managed to be in the top 50 in Latin America, according to Great Place to Work, a world leader in organizational culture, which in November granted Bancamiga its certification for the third consecutive year.

“All this has been achieved in just 16 years of believing, dreaming and working together to build a better country,” he stressed.

To contribute to the sustainable development of Venezuelans, Bancamiga established alliances with public and private companies, and promoted initiatives and programs in the education, culture, environment, social economy and microbusiness sectors.

“In terms of CSR, we achieved more than 2,000 entrepreneurs trained in 100 training activities, 32 inter-institutional alliances to strengthen social responsibility management, among which the United Nations Program, Fundafelices, IESA and, very importantly, the donation to the UCAB with an IBM server that will be used for the training of students, which will allow them to connect with technology, in addition to support in training activities, research projects and support for its Entrepreneurship Center, among many others that are of utmost importance for the growth of our country,” he noted.

For 2024, Bancamiga plans to reaffirm its success and surpass everything achieved during 2023

“We will make this a reality with the launch of new products, offering services tailored to clients, and with the effort, commitment and dedication of our collaborators, who give their best every day to support the growth of the bank and promote all together a better Venezuela.”

The result is 17 % more than the 908 million dollars obtained in the previous quarter. Before taxes, the bank obtained some 1,700 million euros, four percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

“The results of all business areas are within or above expectations, and we have achieved our highest quarterly profit in nine years,” summarized the group’s CEO, Christian Sewing.

Revenue growth

Total revenue, at more than €7.3 billion, was the highest since the first quarter of 2017. “In a difficult environment, we have delivered revenue and profit growth across all core businesses,” he said. CFO James von Moltke.

The goal is to increase return on tangible equity (ROTE) to 8 % by the end of 2022, and even higher than 10 % after tax in the future.

Last year, profitability was only 3.8 percent and this despite the fact that the group, which is listed on the main German stock index (Dax), achieved its highest annual profit since 2011 with 2.5 billion euros. In the first quarter of the current year, the bank obtained a return of 8.1 %.

The study highlights that 24 % of United States citizens held cryptocurrencies in 2021 and only 23 % held certificates of deposit. In addition, it points out that there are more citizens who claimed to have cryptos than those who claim to have certificates of deposit. That is, savings accounts that keep a fixed amount of money for a specific period.

The 31 % of those surveyed expressed having investments in the traditional stock market, while “14 % had a robo-advisor investment account, which are automated portfolio platforms that make investments in consideration of the investor’s personal circumstances.”

Global investment in cryptocurrencies grows

The study also made reference to the global scope, highlighting that Latin American countries are the ones with the highest rates of ownership of cryptocurrencies. But that some European countries such as Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom have significantly increased investments in this type of currency in the last six months. The opposite happens in Asia. In China and Japan, the adoption of cryptocurrencies decreased between the months of August and December 2021.

Investors consider that investing in cryptocurrencies is more profitable than in traditional instruments or keeping money in the bank. They are aware of the volatility of cryptos. However, they offer greater opportunities to earn more money and quickly.

This is a historic alliance that has been led, for 10 years, by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This measure arises from the concern that multinational companies redirect their profits to places where taxes are lower, in order to reduce the tax burden to pay. The agreement represents more than 90 % of world GDP.

Additionally, it will allocate “more than 125,000 million dollars of profits from the 100 largest and most profitable multinational companies to countries around the world.” Ensuring that the transnationals pay “the equitable part of taxes that correspond to them, regardless of where they carry out their activities and generate profits.”

Of the 140 members of the OECD / G20 Inclusive Framework on Tax Planning Strategies (BEPS) 136 joined the declaration that establishes two pillars to address the tax challenges arising from the Digitization of the Economy. While Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have yet to adhere to the agreement.

Tax reallocation

The agreement on the global minimum tax does not attempt to eliminate tax competition, but imposes restrictions negotiated multilaterally, which will cause an additional collection, for the countries, equivalent to “about 150,000 million US dollars.”

The first pillar of the agreement establishes a fairer distribution between countries of the profits and tax rights related to the largest and most profitable multinational companies, reallocating tax rights on large companies from the countries of origin to the markets in which who carry out their economic activity and obtain benefits, regardless of having a physical presence or not.

This means that all those companies that register global sales above 20 billion euros and their profitability exceeds 10 %, which can be considered the most favored by globalization, will be subject to the new rules, so they will be reassigned to market jurisdictions 25 % of the profit that exceeds the 10 % threshold.

While the second pillar establishes a “minimum global tax on companies of 15 %, which will apply to companies that exceed “750 million euros” calculating an annual, worldwide collection, in the order of USD 150 billion.

In addition, the benefits of this agreement will also impact taxpayers and their administrations because it will provide greater stability to the international financial system, as well as the enhancement of legal security in tax matters.
