If no other candidate enters the race, Burnham could be elected Prime Minister by mid-July.

Between 2011 and 2012 he held the same position under the mandate of Michel Martelly. On Saturday he held a meeting with the interim prime minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert, who takes office after the resignation of Ariel Henry following the acts of violence at the end of February.

The private meeting took place in the ambassadors’ lounge of the air terminal and new work meetings are planned to face the internal crisis, while waiting for Conille to take office.

“Conille committed to working with the Presidential Transition Council to resolve the problems facing the country, where elections have not been held since November 2017 when Jovenel Moise won, assassinated on July 7, 2021 by an armed group in his private residence in Port-au-Prince.”

He accepted the position with humility and willingness to work alongside the councilors and organizations that placed their trust in him.

It is important to note that since 2023, Conille, a doctor, has been regional director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for Latin America and the Caribbean.

“I understand that dignity is not compatible with any suspicion (…) The dignity of the prime minister’s functions is not compatible with any suspicion about his integrity (…) that is why, obviously, I have submitted my resignation,” Costa announced after meeting with the president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

From the Sao Bento Palace, headquarters of the Portuguese Assembly, Costa began his intervention before the media showing his “surprise” because the Prosecutor’s Office has included him in said investigation. “I close a stage with a clear conscience,” he declared, while ensuring that he will collaborate with Justice “in everything he deems necessary.”

Costa has stressed on several occasions that the position of prime minister is incompatible with any type of suspicion about his honorability, while at the same time he has stressed that he leaves without any charge of conscience for the commission of any “illegal” or “reprehensible” act. In response to questions from the media regarding his political future, Costa has announced that he will not run in the next elections.

Early on Tuesday, the Prosecutor’s Office carried out several searches, including the headquarters of the Ministries of Environment and Infrastructure, as well as several offices in the Sao Bento Palace, in Lisbon, for suspicions of corruption in the granting of a series of contracts. public related to the exploitation of lithium deposits and a project to produce energy with hydrogen.

The Police also carried out searches at the official residence of the prime minister, to examine the office of his chief of staff, Vítor Escária, who has been arrested, as has the mayor of Sines, the socialist Nuno Mascarenhas, and the businessman Diogo Lacerda Machado, a close friend of Costa.

The searches of several hours at the Environment and Infrastructure headquarters culminated in the accusation of those responsible, Duarte Cordeiro and Joao Galamba, respectively.

The ‘Tory’ conference in Manchester has revealed internal cracks, led among other personalities by former Prime Minister Liz Truss, who has insisted in her messages in favor of a tax cut, although it was precisely her failed tax plan that cost her the placed at the head of the Government.

Sunak has advocated “continuing” with his current work, without surprises, and although he said in an interview with Sky News that he is not afraid to subject his management to the verdict of the polls, for now he is not contemplating it.

The polls place the Labor Party with a wide advantage, which aspires to re-emerge after the comfortable majority achieved in 2019 by the then ‘Tory’ leader, Boris Johnson, now removed from the political front line after a cascade of scandals around him.

“It is not what the country wants,” Sunak declared. “What people want is for politicians to improve their lives,” added the Downing Street tenant, who assumed the reins of the Executive in November 2022 after an accelerated internal process.

Sunak, in fact, responded with “of course” to the question about his possible interest in remaining prime minister after future elections.

The opposition parties and the ruling party itself, the Liberal Democratic Party, made several calls for his resignation, especially at the gates of the next regular parliamentary session at the end of January.

The prime minister appointed Hiromichi Watanabe, who was already Prime Minister of Reconstruction between 2018 and 2019, as Akiba’s successor.

Akiba admitted that two political groups affiliated with him paid 14 million yen to his mother and wife as “rent” between 2011 and 2020. In addition, the minister also reportedly paid 200,000 yen to his state-funded secretaries, to work on his candidacy for re-election to the Lower House in October 2021, something that would violate electoral law.

As the cited agency states, Akiba’s immediate dismissal is due to the government’s desire to avoid obstacles to discussions on next year’s fiscal budget and other party bills in the next parliamentary session.

Previously, three other ministers have left their post in the last two months. The first, the head of the Economy, Daishiro Yamagiwa, for alleged relations with the controversial Unification Church; then the head of Justice, Yasuhiro Hanashi, after a stir due to frivolous comments about his functions; and the Minister of the Interior and Communications, Minoru Terada, also embroiled in a financing scandal.

A third of this figure will be specifically allocated to aid while the other additional 21,000 million euros will be incorporated into the 2023 General Budgets, as announced in the Nadef review, the Financial Economic Document, approved yesterday in the Council of Ministers.

To finance the measures, Meloni and his government team intend to take on additional debt next year at the expense of a 4.5 % deficit instead of the forecast 3.4 percent, according to Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti. who expects the percentage to drop to 3 % in 2025.

In a press conference reported by La Repubblica, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance acknowledged that the country is facing the threat of economic recession, but clarified that Italy is not an exceptional case.

“Many parties at the world and European level are mentioning it. It could also touch Italy. We are prepared to face these risks, that is why we present ourselves to Parliament with a responsible attitude,” Giorgetti explained.

At the same time, the Italian Minister of Energy, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, has announced expansion plans for extractions from natural gas deposits off the coast of Italy. Specifically, it estimates an additional extraction of 500 million cubic meters of gas in the short term, which would increase to 15,000 million cubic meters over the next 10 years.

Sunak, who has a favorable profile for the “establishment”, the markets and the “tory” majority, was already one of the main favorites in July to take office as head of Downing Street during the primaries held after the departure of Johnson and who, however, gave Truss the victory.

The British politician, of African parents of Indian descent, worked in the past as an analyst for Goldman Sachs, among other investment funds, and assured on several occasions that his objective is to put an end to the economic crisis in which the country, especially after the government’s announcement of the so-called mini budget.

Since 2015 he has held the seat for the Richmond district, although he worked for the government of former Prime Minister Theresa May until later becoming head of the United Kingdom Treasury during Johnson’s term, who later promoted him to finance minister.

Starmer, who said shortly before Truss announced her resignation that the Conservative Party has “touched a new and chaotic bottom”, has pointed out that “the failures of the last twelve years have now come to the fore”.

Speaking to the BBC television network, he said that the “Tories” lack the “main patriotic principle of duty”. “This can’t go on like this, the UK deserves better and can’t afford any more chaos from the Conservatives. We need a general election now,” he said.

Thus, the opposition leader said that “the victims of the crimes have not obtained justice” during this time, as well as “the people who die because the ambulances do not arrive on time.” “There are millions of people who cannot get food or warmth in winter,” he stressed.

Starmer reaffirmed that “a Labor government will bring the necessary stability and leadership.” “For our economy. For our growth. For our working class. General elections now”, he has riveted.

Truss’s resignation comes after days of pressure and harsh criticism within the formation. Until Wednesday afternoon, the former prime minister defended that although she has made “mistakes”, she has always acted out of “the national interest” and for the sake of “economic stability”.

“It is the best decision to keep the UK in a stable economic condition,” Truss said in a statement to Downing Street.

Truss has had a “difficult” last day, as Downing Street sources have admitted to the mainstream media. At least 17 deputies have asked him to resign due to the political chaos of these weeks, marked by the practically total dismantling of the fiscal program announced by the Executive in September, according to the Sky News count.

Before the speech to the media, the ‘premier’ has met in Downing Street with her number two, Therese Coffey, considered her main ally within the Government, and also with the head of the ‘tory’ committee that can promote a motion of censure against her, Graham Brady.
