Recent data from the Argentine Ministry of Economy indicate that in February the primary fiscal surplus grew by 20.5 % compared to the same period in 2025.

However, this also showed a 54.8 % drop compared to the surplus recorded last January.

The report indicates that in February the country had “a financial surplus (including debt service payments) of 144.421 billion pesos, a year-on-year decrease of 53.5 %.

This figure also marks a drastic decline compared to the financial surplus of 1.1 trillion pesos in January.”

Total revenues grew 21.2 % year-on-year and primary expenditures 21.3 %. Furthermore, debt interest payments totaled 1.26 trillion pesos.

“According to the 2026 Budget prepared by the Javier Milei administration, Argentina expects to close this year with a primary surplus equivalent to 1.5 % of GDP and a positive financial balance equivalent to 0.3 % of GDP,” the local entity stated.
