Amidst cheers of “Argentina, Argentina!”, Milei and his new vice-president, Victoria Villarruel, proclaimed their loyalty to the Argentine state in the presence of their predecessors, Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner.

In his first act of protocol, Milei left a significant mark when he signed the book of honor of the Chamber of Deputies with the message: “Viva la libertad, carajo”.

Notably, Milei chose not to address the legislative chamber directly, delegating that task to vice-president Villarruel, who expressed words of thanks on behalf of the new president.

“This moment will last forever in our hearts, and I want to thank you for this gesture of joining us from other countries in the world and from the provinces,” said the vice president.

Congress approved this bill in the last few hours, allowing the functioning of the public administration to continue until February 2 of next year.

Biden’s signing of this extension avoids a government shutdown that would have left approximately two million employees without pay, including those in critical roles such as the military, who would be forced to work even days before Thanksgiving. .

The risk of lack of funds would also have generated various effects, from the closure of museums and national parks to the suspension of food health inspections and the interruption of scientific research programs.

It should be remembered that the most recent closure of this type took place during the presidency of Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021), extending for 35 days, from December 22, 2018, to January 29, 2019, marking the longest in history during the Christmas festivities.

Ecuador, a country affected by drug trafficking violence, saw Noboa win the runoff with 52 % support, defeating Luisa González, who obtained 48 % of the votes and was supported by former socialist president Rafael Correa (2007-2017). ).

Noboa’s victory was greeted with enthusiasm by Ecuadorians, who celebrated in the streets of Quito with fireworks and car horns. This election represents one of the biggest setbacks for the Correísta movement, which has lost for the second consecutive time in a presidential election after years of popularity.

“Tomorrow we begin to work for this new Ecuador, to rebuild a country that has been seriously hit by violence, corruption and hatred,” declared the president-elect from his residence in Olón, located in the southwest of the country.

Despite being a newcomer to politics until a few months ago, Noboa promised to strive to “restore peace” to the country.

Luisa González accepted his defeat and congratulated the new president, who won the support of right-wing forces, despite defining himself as center-left.

Although election day passed without serious incidents, both Noboa and González voted wearing bulletproof vests and were surrounded by armed guards. The main concern of both candidates and the population in general is to end the growing violence in Ecuador, a country of 16.9 million inhabitants.

In recent years, Ecuador has become a center of operations for drug cartels with international connections, resulting in a reign of terror and thousands of fatalities.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) confirmed Noboa’s victory and reported a participation of 82.33 % of the 13.4 million Ecuadorians called to vote in this mandatory election.

To guarantee security, approximately 100,000 military and police were deployed throughout the country during the electoral process.

This was announced by Costa himself during a press conference after meeting with the president-elect Lula da Silva, the president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, and the future president of the public bank BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, as reported by the G1 chain.

In this way, the next Executive of Brazil will have up to 14 more ministries than that of outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro, whose cabinet is made up of 23 portfolios. However, Lula da Silva’s will not be the government with the most ministers in Brazilian history, since Dilma Rousseff’s had 39.

Although so far it has not been revealed who will lead the 37 ministries that will make up the new Brazilian government, the future Minister of the Presidency has detailed the names of some of the portfolios that will be created.

For example, the current Ministry of Economy will be divided into four portfolios: Finance, Planning, Industry and Commerce, and Management and Development. Likewise, the Ministry of Infrastructure will be divided into the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Ports and Airports.

Costa has also announced that the future cabinet will also have the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, another for sports and a folder for women. He has also cited the creation of the Ministry of Cities, a division of the Ministry of Regional Development, according to Folha de S.Paulo.

However, the future Minister of the Presidency has specified that the increase in the number of ministries will not imply an increase in public spending, since new positions will not be created, but rather the current secretaries of each portfolio will become ministers.

“We will expand the 23 existing ministries to 37, maintaining the same volume of positions. With this, we improve the representativeness of the different segments of society through the ministries, without implying an increase in public spending,” Costa wrote in the Twitter social network.

The proposals were presented by deputy Cenobia Vargas, last August, and independent assemblyman Gabriel Silva in September 2021.

The commission is analyzing both legislative proposals in order to select one of them or combine them and draft the final proposal of the commission, which would be sent to the Assembly for review.

The National Assembly of Panama reported through the instant messaging Twitter that a subcommission was created to unify the criteria of bill 696, which regulates “the use of cryptocurrencies as payment methods and everything related to blockchain technology in Panama and 697, Crypto Law: what makes Panama compatible with the digital economy”.

Scenario of cryptocurrencies

The legislative proposals differ in their approach to the regulation of digital currencies in the country. The proposal presented by Deputy Vargas, known as Bill 696, refers to the regulation of “bitcoin and ether”. And it includes other currencies in the regulation such as the “tether stable currency”.

Vargas also refers to “other types of tokens, such as NFTs (non-fungible tokens) or the 7even Utility Token (7UT)”, highlighting that “7UT would be an excellent means of payment for Panamanian businesses.”

For his part, Assemblyman Silva explains in his Bill 697 the potential that the regulation of cryptocurrencies “bitcoin and ether, and admitting them as a means of payment” would have. The deputy also explains in the project the opportunities that investors and entrepreneurs can have with the regulation of cryptocurrencies.

Currently, both Vargas and Silva are defending their respective proposals and answering each and every one of the doubts or questions from their colleagues within the commission. The latter will present its conclusions to the National Assembly so that it proceeds to discuss the project presented again, later they will proceed to its deliberation and vote.

If the project manages to advance and obtain a favorable result, it will be issued to the President of Panama, who will have the responsibility of definitively approving or rejecting the Law.
