Holding BTC is crucial for these economies in a global context marked by financial uncertainty, inflation, and political instability.

This was stated to Bloomberg Line by Matías Mathey, from the Board of Directors of the NGO Bitcoin Argentina, who also pointed out that the volatility of the cryptocurrency has not diminished the interest of these three countries in further accumulation.

He explains this phenomenon by indicating that leaders do not make decisions based on the daily price of Bitcoin, which has experienced sharp fluctuations since the last quarter of 2025, but rather with a long-term perspective. He also emphasized that the digital currency only needs time, not political consensus, referring to the current tensions between various countries.

According to the Bitcoin Treasuries platform, Bitcoin holdings in 2026 are distributed as follows: States with a total of 328,372 BTC, equivalent to USD 29.707 billion; China with 190,000 BTC (around USD 17.189 billion); and the United Kingdom with 61,245 BTC (approximately USD 5.541 billion).

They are joined by Ukraine, with 46,351 BTC (around USD 4.193 billion); and El Salvador, in Latin America, with 7,518 BTC (around USD 680 million). The United Arab Emirates follows with 6,420 BTC (approximately USD 581 million), and Bhutan has 5,984 BTC (around USD 541 million).

In the case of Latin America and the Caribbean, it would be 2.5 %.

The forecasts of the international organization are moderate, since it takes into account aspects that directly affect the economic recovery of peoples, such as armed conflicts, inflation or political instability, considered persistent risks.

In this sense, the IMF mentions the United States, China, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina among the main world economies.

According to the IMF, the US economy “is doing very well, with a solid labor market and private demand that remains robust.”

In the case of China, it is facing an increase in trade tensions. Germany, for its part, ended 2024 with its second consecutive year of recession. And France is experiencing an internal political crisis that is slowing its growth.

Regarding the situation in LA and the Caribbean, the IMF places Brazil’s growth at 2.2 %, Mexico at +1.4 % and Argentina at 5 %. “Overall, the economy of Latin America and the Caribbean will grow 2.5 % this year and 2.7 % in 2026, the same as forecast in October,” the organization indicates.
