In accordance with changes to WhatsApp’s policies, starting January 15, 2026, all AI chatbots, except for Meta’s own, will no longer be available on the platform.

According to the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp, a decision confirmed by Microsoft, following a domino effect trend that includes other assistants, such as Luzia and ChatGPT.

More than a reform of the platform’s policies, analysts consider this a “textbook strategic maneuver,” arguing that “Meta is eliminating the competition in one fell swoop to clear the way for its own offering, Meta AI.”

The truth is that the new rules of the game expressly prohibit the use of the API for general-purpose AI assistants. Consequently, users who want to continue using Copilot will be forced to “migrate to Microsoft’s dedicated app or its web version, losing something as valuable as their chat history, which cannot be transferred.”

In this context, the parent company’s own assistant, Meta AI, has already been natively (and often intrusively) integrated into the WhatsApp interface. “By ousting rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft, Meta ensures that its artificial intelligence has no direct competition within the world’s most used messaging app.”
