The MetaMask ethereum self-custody wallet is seeking expansion in the market, anticipating the general launch of this new card at the end of the year.

The goal of the platform is to provide cryptocurrency users with more tools for asset holding and trading.

The alliance with the credit card issuer Mastercard and the fintech Baanx was announced through a statement from MetaMask, announcing the new product in a pilot phase to “remove barriers to the everyday use of digital currencies.”

They indicated that it works the same as a traditional debit card, “where the user continues to maintain custody of the cryptocurrencies in their wallet, and these are converted to fiat currency at the time of purchase.”

The beneficiaries in this test are users from the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU), including Spain.

Raj Dhamodharan, executive vice president of Blockchain & Digital Assets at Mastercard, said: “We identified a significant opportunity to make purchases easier, more secure and interoperable for self-custody wallet users.”

Users must register to enjoy the MetaMask card and “set it as a payment method on your mobile device.” They will be able to make daily purchases in the USDC and USDT stablecoins, pegged to the US dollar, as well as WETH using the Linea layer 2 network.

This pilot test is decisive in the country’s transition to digital currency. “This step facilitates the examination of the functionality of the digital ruble platform in an industrial context, the refinement of essential procedures in collaboration with clients, the possible adjustments of processes and the guarantee of an easy and understandable experience for the client,” indicated Skorobogatova.

Anticipating positive results after the tests in the 13 Russian banks, the objective will be to generalize the use of the digital ruble, establishing 2025 as the deadline for Russian citizens to be able to use said digital currency.

“The initial phase of the pilot program will focus on refining core processes, including digital ruble account creation and funding (digital wallets), digital ruble transactions between individuals, hassle-free automated payments, and the use of a QR code for transactions related to purchases and services”.

The pilot test will give participants the opportunity to carry out transactions in 30 commercial establishments located in 11 Russian cities. Next year, they will expand the type of transactions, and in addition to the use of the QR code, it will be possible to make transfers between legal entities.

With this function, companies will be able to sell their products, from their profile pages on the instant messaging platform.

The companies participating in the pilot program will have a space at the top of their Twitter profiles where they can show the products available to buy without leaving the application.

The social network, which is based in San Francisco, explained that all people in the United States who have the application in the English version of Twitter and are adapted to Apple mobile devices will be able to view the Shop Module.

Bruce Falck, Goldbird Product Leader, said: “We are excited about the potential of shopping on Twitter and eager to learn more on the go.” The purpose of the store module is to offer social network users a way to “Tweet about products to buy them.“

According to what Falck expressed, with this new experience they will continue to learn about people’s buying preferences on Twitter. “We are starting with a handful of brands in the United States.”

Studies carried out by the eMarketer company indicate that the social network Facebook leads the market for “social commerce”, which has been growing rapidly and it is estimated that by the end of the year, in the United States, it will have a value of about $ 36 billion.
