Sales of the German automaker BMW fell 1.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of the year, to 588,000 vehicles, as announced by the company itself.

BMW detailed that vehicle deliveries in China fell even more, 6.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, to almost 195,000 vehicles. Likewise, the company added that sales in Europe decreased by 1.9% year-on-year, reaching 216,000 vehicles. In the United States, however, they increased by 11.2%, reaching almost 90,000 units.

Despite the results, the company considered that “across the world there was a clear upward trend in March.” In addition, he explained that a stabilization in the Chinese economy is expected throughout the year.

Pieter Nota, director of sales, stated that he sees BMW “on track for slight growth by 2023. The main drivers will be fully electric vehicles and models in the upper luxury segment.”

In the first quarter of the year, the automotive group increased its sales of fully electric cars by 83 %, to almost 65,000 vehicles. “We have managed to maintain our dynamic pace in promoting electromobility in the first quarter.”
