The internet user experience is becoming increasingly sophisticated, thanks to tools based on artificial intelligence. One example of this is the new Comet browser from Perplexity AI, recently launched.

“Comet offers advanced searches, automatic summaries, and product comparisons while providing direct links to sources, a strategy with which Perplexity AI seeks to lead a sector dominated by Google and OpenAI.”

The browser is free to download for any user globally. By functioning as a multitasking assistant, it “allows you to perform searches, obtain item summaries, compare prices in online stores, monitor events in real time, or manage your calendar from a single interface, optimizing processes that typically require multiple tabs or extensions in conventional browsers.”

The startup Perplexity AI, founded in 2022 in the United States, claims that Comet is not a simple extension for running artificial intelligence algorithms, “but rather a platform designed from the ground up to make artificial intelligence a structural part of the web experience.”

With this launch, the company seeks to dethrone Google Chrome from the top spot in the browser segment.

According to Perplexity, each user query returns direct links to sources and references to maintain the reliability of the answers. What applications does it have in everyday life? People can “perform complex searches such as booking international flights, receive real-time alerts about sporting events, compare product features, or generate summaries of extensive reports with their respective source links.”

Regarding Comet’s accessibility, the download is free, with desktop versions for Windows and macOS available from the official website. Work is underway to bring it to mobile devices, including iOS and Android.
